Call them directly, especially if it seems to good! Glad to hear your blood work went well. Oh, the pier runner... No way to stop the yelling at passengers making thier way back to the ship late. If it's a ship excursion, they won't be calling the passengers names. The ship already knows they will be late. If you're on your own, drinking and can't keep track of time, that's on you. Last Carnival cruise we went on last year the captain encouraged everyone to go to the side of the ship for a late arriving person so we could jear them on as they arrived - the little transport cart purposefully stopped about 50 yards short of the gangway so they had to run the rest of the way while everyone cheered and whistled them on!!

We had a funny story. Our last NCL cruise was out of Philadelphia. The ship was the Crown and was so small it was hidden behind the brick building at the naval yard . So when we drove up my husband thought the guard at the gate was waving us off . We then went and found a map at Walmart. (This was like 16 years ago. ) So we went back and the guard said he was trying to tell us to come in and laughed. We went around the corner and sure enough there was the ship ! Enjoy- it really was fun to explore Philly before and after the cruise .

Pier walkers.... I was on a celebrity ship and the return vehicles from our ship purchased excursion was late getting back. When we were all let off at the parking lot we still had a healthy walk to the pier. We all, except one woman, headed directly back. The crew waiting decided to take to task the twin brothers who were in front of this. Mocking them for not knowing about watches. As we passed I voiced they where on the ship sponsored excursion, with their parents who were behind us. That was so wrong. Pissed me off.

Tony, while Philadelphia is not in a coastal state (PA), the city was at one time, one of the largest ports on the east coast. Phila is on the Delaware River, just a short distance from the Delaware Bay with a short sail to direct access to the ocean. I grew up in Phila, and my Dad was a port worker; Phila had cruises many year ago and Dad used to load those ships. My biggest concern about cruises out of Phila is that the city tends to have MANY people with many "rough edges"(many are my family members). I am afraid that drinking and cruising may bring out the worst in them. If you thought Carnival had an issue with cruise ship brawls, wait until NCL cruises out of the "City of Brotherly Love"; I predict big trouble.....

It’s also near our sports complex. Ships have to be smaller to get under the bridges. This is great news for Philly, the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection! 2026 is the U.S. 250th birthday, the city is hosting FIFA World Cup, MLB All Star game, PGA championship and NCAA March Madness…Lots of history and things to do here, including New Jersey. Note: I have not (yet) done this, I've just seen it from all the cruise videos I watch. For people who are concerned about the risk of being late: get the contact details for the ship or the pier staff before you leave the terminal. (Someone please respond telling us how to get those details.) If you are going to be late, call the ship/pier staff and negotiate for a late arrival to the ship. Be aware that you are in a negotiation, you have no right to demand that the ship wait. You have to ask, with the understanding that the answer might be no. Give an estimate of how late you'll be. If you'll need assistance, this is when you ask for it. And this is in no way guarantees that you'll catch the ship. If they decline to wait, you have a head start on getting to the airport!

keep in mind that throughout Covid many of these port cities saw a drastic reduction in people for several years. Now that cruising is back in full swing and every new boat is even bigger meaning every ship that docs is spilling 3-4 thousand people at a time, vs 2-3k in years past. It can be overwhelming. Not to mention i've found that tourist in general (of a certain age bracket) are less respectful. Everyone and their dog is stopping in the middle of the street recording themselves. Taking pictures in areas that are unsafe or restricted because somehow the rules dont apply to them. I can understand some high traffic areas getting tourist fatigue.

Saw several posts in the FB group for the cruise that people were getting robbed at the airport, of all places, as they were leaving. Unfortunately, Barcelona is a major point for embarkations for RCCL in Europe and fairly easy to get to from other EU countries... so for my next cruise in Sept on Oasis, we decided to stay in the outskirts of Barcelona at a resort. Where we can just chill for the day before and just head directly to the port for embarkation. The airport is still a point to deal with... sadly!

Not everyone can run, Tony. My husband is disabled and has severe anxiety. He doesn't always need a wheelchair to get around so looks able bodied but he cannot move quickly. If we were delayed from getting back to the ship for reasons outside our control he would absolutely not be able to run the pier, and if a ship full of people were jeering at us and making fun, his anxiety would have him in tears. People should be more compassionate because you never know what is going on for the person you see coming back late.
