So I’m a firefighter who regularly goes into hoarding conditions and we had a lady in our town who did the same thing. She shits in ziplock bags and then transfers it to 5 gallon buckets. The fly situation in her house is insane. We put on our breathing apparatus and hazmat suits when we have to go into her home for an EMS call because the flies will land on your lips. We went there for a fire one time and my friend stepped into a plastic storage bin filled to the brim with diarrhea. The smoke was so thick, he didn’t see the bucket. Our boots go 3/4 up our calf inside our bunker pants and the diarrhea went up over the top of his boot and filled it and soaked his sock. The reason I’m saying this is because this shit is real as fuck and not exaggerated for TV. it is VERY common. It’s a mental illness obviously but when you live in a densely populated city you see this shit all the time.

Joe never claims anyone as an expert deceptively edits footage or tells people what to think. his podcast isn’t like mainstream media who props up anyone as an expert who the share holders, advertisers and doners tell them to call an expert. Joe lets people explain them selves or present information and the truth comes out. He literally leaves it up to the consumer. Joe is for the people who make their own opinions based on the whole truth. If you can’t handle information that isn’t carefully picked cooked and spoon fed to you by the wealthiest people on the planet. We hit a search warrant on a dope house around 1998. The crackheads had stripped all of the copper out of the house, so there was no running water. After the entry, we counted 33 lidless Home Depot-type buckets that were to the rim with urine and feces. When they ran out of buckets, they started shitting in empty bread bags, tying them closed and throwing them in the floor. One of our team members stepped on one of the bread bags. It got pressure build up and was almost ready to burst. I talked him off of it like he was standing on a landmine…

I had a childhood friend that reconnected on social media with me years after graduating and after drifting apart. I went to go visit her and was shocked by how she lived. She had always been heavy but now was more so. I’m not saying that to shame (I struggle with and am working on my weight too), but her out-of-control eating had triggered diabetes that she never managed. Chick lived off bottles and bottles of diet Dr Pepper…I don’t think I saw her drink anything else…and ate junk food and tons of sugar and carbs but somehow thought diet soda balanced out the bad with good. She had a little dog but was too lazy to take it outside so “converted” one room of her rental house into a dog toilet and would just let it go poop and pee in there on the carpet and never picked it up. Her furniture also had a strong urine smell. Crazy thing is that she acted like this was normal. I left (less than 12 hours later I got terribly sick - no doubt from her house) and dodged her calls. A couple years after that, she moved back to our home town, and I stupidly visited again thinking maybe she had changed. Nope. Got worse. Now in a one bedroom rental with two dogs, there was animal feces everywhere that she just stepped around. I suggested at least cleaning up the feces, and it filled three dust-pans, 🤢 and she hadn’t been living there but a few weeks. The final straw for my stomach was I saw the sores on her legs from the diabetes she pretty much ignored and as she sat there her little dog came over and started licking them, and she did nothing to stop it. 🤮 After I left, I called animal control and social services as she wouldn’t listen to me that this was unnatural and unhealthy. She was furious with me, saying that she routinely has her nieces sleep over and her sister never says anything…yeah, cause her house is as gross. Never went inside hers but could smell it from the driveway, though I blamed sewage issues at the time since it was before I knew people could live like this. She never did change and thought I was the abnormal one for telling her this was nasty. As for how I was originally friends with her - back then she lived with her grandmother who was a very clean person (no dust, make your bed each morning, no dishes in sink type), so I never knew Amanda was like this, but the grandmother passed away and the bio mom and sister came back into the picture and all of them are peas in a too-far-gone pod.

I have had experience with a family member who was a hoarder but nothing like this. It was just tons of stuff and actually good things until mice got into the house and they ended up having to get rid of all of their belongings. It's very sad because this person had lost everything to a fire and when she was a child she had to move all the time so she was very tied to her things because because every time they moved she would loose her friends so her belongings ment everything to her. Not only that she lived through times when there was no food because they were poor. It's very sad and tragic to see especially when it's a good person. I just hope that people can understand that this is someone who has a mental illnesses it's described as like someone who has schizophrenia and they can't help themselves so they need help from a psychologist and to be on medication. Just wanted to share because people always just think and judge before they know who this person is and how they ended up this way.

It’s really sad this person got to that level. I’ve worked with some hoarders in the past ( mental health practitioner here) and much of it comes from what you might imagine, which is the fear of separation/loss/abandonment, over identifying with objects (ie I have experienced feeling ‘discarded’ before and by over identifying with the objects I’m ‘saving’ them from being discarded), symbolic representation of connections with others even if fleeting, a sense of danger if they don’t follow prescribed rituals they’ve created, depersonalization ( ie they keep the shed parts of self as proof they’re real, hence keeping excrement/urine/hair/nails/scabs). Helping individuals like this to orient towards different metrics/stimuli/ sensations can help reduce the behavior. Interestingly enough it is also observable ( to less extreme extents) in generations who have been through intense physical hardship, like post depression era adults, and then their children.

Not gunna lie but when I see a woman eat out of a paper bowl that is covered with caked on shit so nonchalantly, I feel like she is too far gone. I can only imagine that if there was a god and they saw that, they'd lose a little love for humanity.

I install Windows and doors Nd one job was this little old lady must been in her 80s and we replaced her old wooden frames and put new ones in. She was a serious boarder in a really big house mini mansion and every room was filled to the brim with junk. About a week after we finished on a sunday evening saw this little old lady walking up my driveway, she found out where I live to come and take back the ripped out and broken wooden frames from her old Windows. Ended up driving her home and she said she doesn't know why she just cannot part with it, was all she could think about and stopped her sleeping she said. At the job she offered us a drink I said yes.. it was an umbongo that went put of date in the 1990s. This was about 4 years ago

I own a moving company. Once I arrived to move 2 old ladies. They literally had blue tarps for walking paths with dog poo everywhere all over the house. Thinking it couldn't get any worse, there were piles of poo in the corners. She had one clean mattress in the entire place. Literally the second we noticed it the dog pooped on the mattress fell over and died. Craziest thing I've ever seen in my life.

I watched that episode, I was constantly gagging. I could not believe that her mental health declined so bad that she could no longer see the way she was living was horrid. It started with her mom, who was peeing in bottles and the daughter followed suit. Once her mom died of cancer, she just got worse and worse. When the house was declared irreparable, the shows therapist/psychologist declared that woman unfit to care for herself. Her older sister took her in while they waited for an assisted living to become available.

I saw that episode, she wasn't faking. I used to work in Home Healthcare for the VA. Trust me when I say, this isn't the worst house I've been to. It's both sad and amazing what people can get used to. I've started to walk into homes and had to do a 180 to grab a respirator and coveralls because it was so bad. The cat people were the worst. The level of ammonia from all the old cat litter that hasn't been dumped in months was overwhelming.
Shane is one of my favorite guests! He's freaking hilarious, and I feel like he's just one of the bros lol!

I remember this episode. She would actually eat it (feces) sometimes because she said it was "like a part of her was missing and by eating it she was being restored." Towards the end of the show, she asked if she could "have one last meal (meaning feces) before they disposed of all the waste. It was truly sickening and sad at the same time.

Her responses around 4:50 are so raw and truthful to her in her current state of mind just like any addict when in active addiction. Clearly everyone knows there’s an underlying issue that bothered her so much she found unfortunately very disgusting ways to cope- much like an addict. You have to pull from the roots to make sure those weeds don’t come back when it comes to anything you want to change in your life. In the topic of the Comedian laughing, I think it just his own natural way of coping with VERY uncomfortable things- like the thought of experiencing something so traumatic you turn out like this lady. Everything is perspective.
