This popular Shanghainese dish is super flavorful and delicious! A great vegetarian dish to add to your dinner table. Learn how to prep and cook with wheat gluten, also known as kao fu (烤麸). The dish is vegan friendly as well!
Kao fu is a form of wheat gluten, often sold dried, that tastes kind of like tofu and has a spongy texture to it. It can be found at most Asian supermarkets along with the other ingredients mentioned in the video. Lots of health benefits from this dish with cordyceps militaris, wood ear and Chinese mushrooms, etc.
It's traditionally made with peanuts but my daughter doesn't like peanuts and since it's braised with the kao fu, mushy peanuts aren't really my thing.
Ingredients:
- wheat gluten, kao fu
- Chinese mushrooms
- green onion
- cordyceps militaris
- wood ear mushroom
- vegetable stock powder
- rock sugar
- dark soy sauce
- regular soy sauce
- red pepper (optional)
