My grandmother told me the story of the Somme when I was a boy and years later, I was privileged to get to know a Somme veteran myself. Such a powerful and moving song!

My great grandfather from the Shankill survived serving for the Irish guards in 1915-1919 through the battle of the Somme, so glad I came across this song. I’m an English man by my dads from belfast and that’s his grandfather I mentioned who served in the army
