Most people couldn't imagine the training they go through. It's a life changing commitment. Shaolin appears martial but it is also spiritual. You are training yourself to recognize the body, it's movement, and the energy that flows through it. The energy is very subtle, and hard to recognize for the thick headed. It requires constant training to become aware of the mechanics happening within. Then with full awareness, once trained, your moves are automatic, no thought, free flowing like energy. You will also notice that time is relaxed, and you have more mental space.

I started studying Shaolin Kung Fu in 1969. Changed my life immensely. I. 67 soon to be 68. Not as flexible and limber as I used to be. New knee and arthritis in in left hip. But I still train. I train Shotokan Katas using more fluid Kung Fu move. Combining the two has really kept me in great fighting shape. Even at 69.

The Kun Fu taught in this video is articulate and well performed. The core stances teach you a foundation for the rest of the movements in the art form. If you noticed when he was performing the kicks he was switching between stances to enable him to build strength in the movement. If you do not practice the stances you will have no fluidity to your movements.

I regret not learning any of this as a kid. I kept thinking at the time that I'd never use it, and that I don't want to put the work into it. I stuck with that up till now. And here I am, failing school, and my family is disappointed I'm me. I'm wanting to make myself learn and grow up. I need to stop thinking of what might happen, I need to think of what will happen. I'm not gonna hide in a hole anymore, I don't know when to stop digging. I haven't yet watched the video, but I am hoping that it will help me in making me a better person.

I don't see the point in disliking this kind of tutorial videos...shaolin just offers basic techniques for free to get started in practicing...just practicing Horse stance is an unvaluable skill to strenghthen inner energy and to hace strong legs. Also It is offered the shaolin version of baduanjin qigong,which can be practiced besides kung fu techniques to develop a good flow of inner energy and a relaxed mind. Thanks shaolin for giving this material for free.

Lance Prep Try the wudang style horse stance because it's harder and very natural. You see, when you ride an actual horse, your feet are only about shoulder width apart. You must maintain good posture while doing this, so only go as low as you can with your back still verticle. Hold it at whatever height as long as you can once a day. Within six months your thighs should be parallel with the ground. the longer you hold it, the higher you will be able to jump. There feet in this video are extremely wide and no one rides a horse like that.
@DrRobynKelley313

In karate, the horse stance is the first one taught. It is brutal in karate. You need to start by doing stretches first. When doing the positions just hold for brief time at first a couple tumes a day, then steadily increase the time holding the positions. It gets easier once you get your muscles in shape.

@@DrRobynKelley313 Are karate and kung fu same?
@DrRobynKelley313
4 жыл бұрын
@@yusufsumtallee7374 no, Karate and Kung Fu are vastly different. Karate is brutal, whereas Kung Fu is soft but firm. It's like the difference between hitting someone with a stick vs blasting someone with a water hose. Just as effective, but entirely different. Plus, Karate is hard on the body, but Kung Fu uses natural body movements, which makes it easier on the body.

It's like how the two people behind the person showing how to do the exercises are doing it in different levels. Usually the person on the left demonstrates the beginner's level, and the person in the front are obviously the expert. It's just to show that you don't have to do it perfect if you've just started.

Try using ankle supports or knee supports and see if that helps you can just use wrapping bandage as a replacement for those supports

Begin by walking often. Do small squat. Consult health professional. Have you think about Thaï Chi?

Onito91 Do you think tutorials for martial arts will work, because I'm thinking of learnging online for most martial arts I can't learn because of no schools being here. OR do you have alternatives learning a martial arts without an instructor you reccomend, like reading articles and books rather than seeing articles. I thank you for telling me this

Lots of respect to Lord Monk Deyang and to the person who uploaded this. I got inspiration from The Movie 36th chamber of shaolin.

So for years I've been wanting to do martial arts but I was born with a fucked up lower back and consequently my hamstrings are ridiculously tight. I used to do wrestling for 4 years and I've been practicing boxing, but I want to do martial arts like this, karate, muay thai etc but my hamstrings are so tight that the highest kick I can do is to an opponents knee. To give a perspective on my inflexibility, whenever I try to touch my toes without bending my knees at all, my fingers hang at best 22 inches above the ground and that's the lowest I can stretch. Not to mention my long ass legs don't help with the matter. Does anyone know how I could effectively loosen my hamstrings beyond the basic stretches?

Nohb'dy 11 What I would try:1. Stretching 2-3 times a day for 3 minutes each time, each stretch. (hamys, glutes, I.T band stretch etc) 2. Foam Rolling once every day. 3. See an extremely good Kinesiologist about it. This is all i can say since i dont know exactly what you mean by an F'd up lower back.

My hamstrings are extremely tight also, probably due to falling out of a tree flat on my back as a child. Stretching on a daily basis would help. Physical therapists use heat before exercise to relax muscles. Found that out after breaking thumb. Heat helps a lot. Put a heating pad between your legs for at least 15 minutes before stretching. You will be sore for awhile but if you stuck with it your body will adjust and the soreness will go away. Must have determination.

I do these at home, I cant afford to go to the temple and even if I could I've got too many responsibilities here in the US. I carry buckets of water and do a lot of these stances in my garage. When the gyms open back up I'll be there a lot again. Great video I enjoyed it very much.

you must be very flexible, are you strong enough to stand yourself up again. practice with the resting stance to warm up before you try. think of it like transitioning from sitting to resting, then stand up straight.

in horse stance, keep your feet parallel. it improves your balance and the angle of your knees, hips and shoulders . practice balance with bow stance first

+Justin Demoret Are you sure? When I tried that it hurt my knees as I have to twist them nearly 45 degrees. Or do you mean have the legs in a different position too?
