Exercise four builds upon the foundation laid in exercise three, introducing a dynamic double downward strike sequence. After the initial downward strike, the rear hand follows up with a second strike, creating a fluid motion akin to a figure eight. Repeat this sequence, alternating between forehand and backhand strikes, focusing on control and precision with each movement.
As with previous exercises, aim to perform this drill a minimum of 20 times on each side to maximize your training effectiveness. Maintain consistent footwork, stepping up as the rear hand strikes forward, and vice versa when stepping backward. This synchronicity between footwork and striking ensures optimal power generation and balance.
Exercise five introduces upward striking, a versatile technique for targeting opponents' lower body areas. Rotate the pole across your body, slide the hands, and execute an upward strike from ankle to knee level. Repeat this motion on both sides, focusing on fluidity and accuracy with each strike.
Remember to practice this exercise at least 20 times on each side to reinforce muscle memory and technique proficiency. Pay attention to footwork, stepping forward as you strike, and ensuring that the striking hand corresponds to the forward leg for optimal balance and power generation.
Exercise six showcases the upward pulling strike, a powerful technique for gaining control of the opponent's pole or disarming them altogether. Slide the hands with the lead hand facing down, and yank the pole upward in a pulling motion. Transition smoothly across the body, repeating the upward strike with precision and intent.
As with previous exercises, aim for a minimum of 20 repetitions on each side to ingrain proper technique and develop strength and coordination. Focus on synchronizing footwork with hand movements, ensuring that the striking hand corresponds to the forward leg for maximum effectiveness.
