I poked the Internet and Lee Ping Fei's actor, Carter Wong, is the actor who played Thunder in "Big Trouble In Little China"! How cool is that? I knew he looked familiar. This is a throwback to the glory days of old school kung fu epics that ended as soon as the final fight was over because they got to the point and got out while the getting was good. Bad dubbing and all, which is part of the charm of the whole thing. Thanks for sharing this one!

In the early’70s, I used to go to Chinatown L.A. to watch the Shaw Brothers’ movies. I always got a (if you pardon the pun) kick out of these long outdoor fight scenes before sunscreen was invented. You could tell they took a long time to film because the actors would get more and more sunburned as it went on.

They are all actually based on the same legend of Bak Mei / Pai Mei and are different interpretations of the same character. This character was later used in Kill Bill, but is an homage to the original Pai Mei of Chinese movies. Aside from similar appearance, they also have similar stories such as some altercation with Shaolin monks and responsible for their killing. And having a palm-attack technique that kills the opponent after they take a certain number of steps.
@cannabico6621
Жыл бұрын
it's not the same character all the time, the white haired kung fu masters are either taoist monks based on lao tse (white/black robes and the ocassional ying yang) or simply old men depicted as such, that look is really old and not just an invention, watch the movie invincible armor to see two ''pai meis'' fighting, they are actually brothers and disciples of the same style.

Oh boy back in the day all of this the old school kung fu movies should be on one of the major networks NBC, CBS, ABC EVEN FOX, back in the late 70"s early 80's i was maybe 10yo growing up in Milwaukee Wis go downtown sat afternoon i think 1pm cinema 1 & 2, cinema 1 would show 3 kung fu movies $2 to get in and watch these movies every single movie come out, use be ready to show your skills, back then being strapped, mom mad because the broom mop handles gone took them to make nun chucks,u always kept in your socks under your pants legs u got knotts on your forehead practicing, 1 star in your back pocket u dont want to use cause u only got 1 but u will in case u winning a fight and my kung fu style i saw the movie twice in one week the fighting style was the grasshopper using that style and person take off running away? Back then that was being strapped no kind of guns fortunately never got into with anyone, also to all the old school kung fu fans that reads this that remember the Movie the name? Or the guys names that used grasshopper kung fu not not the guy that did the the tv show David carriden u

Even as a kid I couldn't stand the stupidity if these movies. The complete lack of acting skills, nonexistent directorial talent, Zero budget make up, ludicrous fight choreography, the bizarre zooming in and zooming out for no reason. They were made to entertain illiterate peasants and the Shaw Brothers made a mountain of money from their fecal factory.
