Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Psalm 127:4 (ESV)
SHAPING THE ARROW
1. START NOW
You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15 (NLT)
1. Teach them the Benefits of Obedience
Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3 (NLT)
2. Teach them how to get Self-Control
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. Proverbs 25:28 (ESV)
2. LIVE CONSISTENTLY
Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples? You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it. Romans 2:21-23 (NLT)
3. LOOK FOR TEACHABLE MOMENTS
And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NLT)
