That was great, Shari! Thanks for the demo -- it was just like standing next to you during a live demo. It's so helpful to see how you mix your paint, lay down your brushstrokes and add the final touches. I look forward to more of these!

Shari. I noticed at the very end of your video, you show the finished painted sketch of the ruins. This is followed by a a 5 second view of a more refined painting. Why did you show that without any comment? Did you really make a second painting? Thanks.

Hi Joe. Thanks so much for asking. That is the very same painting. It's just that it was scanned after I returned home, so the colours may be a bit brighter. I double checked to see if the brush strokes were the same and they are. I did do a version as a teaching demo the next day, but what you see in the video is the original sketch. Shari

Thanks for sharing! Always so helpful as you work though what you are mixing and how you are adding the strokes! Looking forward to more of these! Reflections is always something I look for when photographing - and don't really understand yet how to do in watercolor, if you are looking for ideas of what to demo.....thanks again for sharing!

This is so great to watch! I have followed your blog for quite awhile and would have loved to attend a workshop but I’m easily intimidated by looking at your paintings. This helped me to see the ease you paint with and why you do what you do. I am excited to see more more of these videos! (And even try a little plein air myself!)

Shari. I adore your work and sharing this live type video really helps. I see that the trees were actually yellowish and u made them green. Artistic license? I have a tendency to paint the way the scene is and I wish I could have more vision as u do. How do I decide that? Please do more videos like like! I am planning to go on one of your retreats!

Thank you very much Shari for this great lesson. I always find it especially helpful to see you mixing the colors and getting the values right. This for me is the hardest part. So to your Question in the blog. I would appreciate more videos about color mixing and values. Thanks and bye, Birgitt

BobCarolina HI Bob, I use a FOME metal palette for travel sketching. There are many manufacturers that carry this under different brands. Whisky Painters of America also sells something similar to this.

Thank you for your generosity Shari. This is so helpful. I just love your work, always wanted to learn from you. One- hopefully helpful - comment: it's perfectly fine when listing without headphones, but if listening with headphones the sound only comes out of the left side, which is hard to listen to. Checked my headphones and they are fine with other videos. I don't have a suggestion for fixing it on your end, but maybe there is a button which can be pushed when recording (that's how far my technical knowledge goes :-)). Take care, stay healthy!

I really appreciated this as I was just in South Carolina trying to “get” live oaks with Spanish moss. It looks like your flat brush is also a travel brush. I love my Escoda travel round, what are you using for a flat?

Thanks so much Ted. I have a little set of Jack Richeson flats that I use. I love them especially when I use more opaque paint or add on gouache. Here's the set: www.judsonsart.com/products/shari-blaukopfs-plein-air-brush-set

You are so talented and you know I love your work and I always learn so much. I really like how you painted the buildings using the lavender and such a light touch. Also all the values of greens for trees and the touch of opaque for the moss.

Hi Shari, thank you for the demo. I really enjoyed hearing what colors you were using especially as you painted the greens. It was very helpful seeing this part of your process. The length of the video was perfect. Not too long. I look forward to seeing more videos. I would love a video on the boat marina you visit so often.
