Good rule of thumb, anywhere you have fishing boat activity, especially commercial fishing, you get sharks. Therefore Haleiwa is sharky as is Kewalos. Years ago I hurt my lower back and started surfing mostly on SUP. Being up right you see much more what’s going on under water than when you’re sitting or prone on a board. The sharks are there more than you think. In my area, Sunset and Vland, I see one every year or two. Be alert but not fearful, avoid surfing after heavy rain when runoff makes the water murky. But keep surfing! We are all in God’s hands, can’t cheat fate and it’s just too beautiful and peaceful out there to pass it up for such a low risk.

That was solid advice 👌 I had a situation that didn't feel right & a friend just arrived at the point & started calling out 😶 He saw a great white fin about 150 yards from me & estimated it to be 18 ft plus 🫣 I never seen it & that was perhaps mentally beneficial 😀

Japanese overfishing perhaps, the reason for aggressive sharks. Hawaiian regime states that this is not probable.
