Similar situation for me back in the mid 90s at Elmer's Island. Baitfish were thick, morning started off with lots of small specks, white trout, too many ladyfish. Then Spanish macks showed up and decent reds. Not long after that, small-ish sharks showed up. Didn't bother me till one chomped off the speck as I was reaching for the line to land it. I was done for the day. Lol

I had I similar scenario happen with a hammer head in South florida. I was fishing a sand bar about waist deep and heard some splashing looked back and saw a massive fin and tail flailing around. Luckily I was only 20 feet from the boat I walked back and got in the boat. Flipped on the trolling motor to get a closer look and looked down and was a massive 8ish foot hammer head eating sting rays off the bottom.

Could you have a discussion on what you do at the end of the day to clean up your gear after you've been wading in the salt water? I usually get hit by a couple waves while wading, and my equipment gets drenched. I do a rinse down at the end of the day, but I'm not sure if that's enough to prevent my equipment from the elements.
@MarshManMasson

Tbh, I'm terrible about taking care of my reels. However, every reel manufacturer I've asked about it over my career has said you should never rinse your reels. Instead, you should wipe them down with a damp cloth and then oil them

What's the minimum size boat you who recommend for the run out there? I know the wind depends a lot on what you can run out there, but ideally; what do you think?
@justinbowles8563

Man thats a tough one because if you take too big of a boat it makes getting into the sandbars to wade difficult. On the other hand I have a 24 bay boat which is great to fish out of but running that much open water you can get beat up.
@MarshManMasson

I would agree with Justin. It's rare you get a day that starts calm and stays calm this time of year, and you have a whole lot of open water to cross.

That’s the problem with having a stringer attached to you. I got snatched off my feet in gulf shores by a 6 to 7 foot bull shark fishing in the surf. I had 4 really nice 4+ pound specks and 2 top of the slot reds he grabbed a hold of. I got to see that same shark bite a hook 100 yards away and that guy took his head off and was gonna he eating him.

Believe being on that big boat is worth every penny if U want to wade. We must have made that run many times only only waded one time. We came from shell beach and with that saltwater on your body a not good feeling. We caught a ton of bigger fish off the rigs close. But with the big boat and shower no problem and fun.
