Hey, a huge thank you--I was able to resurrect one of these I found on the side of the road. It turned out to be the backlight. It's been enough years where I thought it'd be prudent to just replace all of the LED strips. I appreciate the incredibly hard work of cinematography and editing that makes a video helpful. I'm a creator myself and I know how hard it is. Another aspect of this was that my 4-year old son was fascinated by this and I was able to involve him in the repair (terrifying). He got to use the multimeter to do diode testing on the lights so we could verify the new strips as well as verify that it was a bad LED that causing the issue. He had SO much fun, and it was a really cool bonding experience. So... thank you for all of that.

Hi, I have the 58" Hisense version of this TV and the internals looks identical to the Sharp branded one you worked on. I'm pretty sure one or more backlight LED's are bad because the led driver outputs 100-210vdc but there is zero light from the backlight. However, I'm not sure whether there are additional problems with the mainboard or power supply because this TV is not able to boot up to the main menu. I can get the Hisense logo to appear on the screen but the TV gets stuck on endless loops between the Hisense logo and blank screens. Anyway, do you recall if your Sharp TV exhibited similar behavior before you fixed the backlight? I wonder if the TV monitors the led driver current, and somehow shuts down/restarts every time the led driver voltage maxes out. Disconnecting the backlight plug doesn't help the TV boot up either.

The Sharp I worked on did not do that, but that does not mean some firmware revisions might. I have no experience with that, but it could be a main board issue also.

I have the same problem with Sharp LC-58Q620U, I swapped all the boards and it boots in loop with no backlight. Now I'm trying to identify a bad strip, but they are all glued so badly and multimeter buzzer does not lit them up individually as showed in this video.

@Sasha Dimitr I fixed mine by replacing all the LED strips. Cost was around $25 from aliexpress.

Hey friend, you are probably well past this problem, but perhaps someone else is looking for details. My TV had the same problem, and it was the backlight. The way it's wired up, if one of the LEDs isn't working, it will not boot up, unlike other TVs where it will turn on and you can use the flashlight test.

Great video. How did you know the backlight was bad? I have the same TV and I'm trying to troubleshoot. I have no sound and black screen, standby power is OK. I replaced all boards, Main, Power and T-Con but same issue. How can I see if the backlights are bad, is there and easy way to test? Thanks

Yes, I mentioned that you can shine a flashlight into the LCD screen and look closely to see the image while powered on or powering on and then you know the dark image is there but no light behind it. I did not take time to show in this video since I showed a few minutes of it in the 47" Vizio backlight repair video just a few weeks earlier. Hope it helps and Best of luck to ya!

For this TV, if the backlight is bad, you won't be able to turn the entire TV on. Kind of a bad design if you ask me. I just replaced my backlight with the same symptoms of you, and it fixed it.

How did you jump the strip? Have multimeter in mA mode?

Yes, using the meter to jump at the same time seeing the current in the circuit.

what setting on the tester gives power to the leds to test?

Diode test on DMM will power individual LEDs for testing. When in series we need to use the LED strip tester like this for example.... amzn.to/3U5HYvm
