See, those stones would have caused a problem. This illustrates why maintenance trims are so important. Spotting and stopping any issues before they happen.

So glad you found that nail and washer before it could cause any damage! Rocks are bad but nails and metal can do so much worse.

This is like Nate the Hoof Guy's vid today as well - and my comment !!! Almost makes you want to put a steel plate into one's boots when walking into a meadow - with all of the barbed wire, broken off wires, caltrops, bearded seeds, ground hog/ground squirrel/ground chipmunk/prairie dog holes, sinkholes, broken glass and metal shards, wood and metal screws/nails from local farm construction ... rabid raccoons, chupracabras, burmese pythons, alligators, iguanas, taegu lizards, monitor and komodo lizards, fire and bullet ants, african honey bees, Nessie plesiosaurs, ... and land sharks surfing and biting you in the ankle !!!

With all the things I've seen you gents, Nate, and Graeme pull out of cows every now and again, one would think you'd keep a pair of needle nose pliers on hand for just such an occasion! ;D

That was very close. The nail would have caused extensive damage to the hoof had it gone straight in, like you said.

Farmer needs to give his cows some toilet paper !!! Otherwise, give them a self-operated power wash douche to walk through and keep their bods (and butts) all clean - along with an antiseptic walk-through foot bath. That girl definitely needs some Depends diapers cuz she was splattered from port to starboard.

When the hoof horn separates from the corium, is the hoof horn become soft or mushy? I hope that make sense what I'm asking.

You might want to get a hoof pick as used for horses for picking out stuff like that to protect the edge on your knives.
