sharpies.... a prehistoric version of what's now known as a bogan or westie.... commonly found at shopping malls, rarely seen near a beach.

Aussie Skinhead/rocker cross over equivalent due to smaller population and less venues, yes it was a Melbourne thing, starting in the 60's in adversarial role to MODS, yes we had our own version of mods too in the 60's and a revival in the late 70's and 80's

A unique and very cool youth medium..I doubt that there is any film of any youth cult that's not embarrassing to those viewing or who was there..and that includes Mods ....Skins..Punks..Goths..Teds. .or New Romantic. Each to there own..he'll if they were enjoying themselves why not. What is embarrassing is Fat Middle aged Mods or Bald Pensioner Teds

I've never heard of Sharpies before - was it a Melbourne thing? I'm 55 and grew up on the North Shore in Sydney in the 70's and we had 'Westies' out in the western suburbs - apparently now called 'Bogans' (I left Australia in 2001).
