The CDs output is perfectly identical. CDs were used for data storage too and if you burn 2 CDs with data files, the output files are BIT IDENTICAL.

Burning a CD is not the same as playing in a CD transport.

@@Coneman3 data on CDs is stored digitally in with a lossless encoding, so, yes, you can burn as many CDs you want and there will be NO loss in audio quality (or data).

A CD made perfectly symmetrical to the centre hole reduces vibrations. I think this is the main mechanism of how it can help the sound.

Reed Solomon does have limits, but that's why the process is run twice. ~RS>Interleaving>RS>Interleaving>EFM~ Wiki says it thusly: The CD system employs two concatenated Reed-Solomon codes...

I bought a CD off eBay and it would not play on my portable cd player. I put new batteries in, still nothing. I opened the cover and spun the cd around. I could hear a slight rumble. I took it out and examined it. It appeared to have an edge all the way around that stuck out. The edge was not flat. So I took a razor knife and trimmed about a third of a millimeter all around the edge. It plays now. Weird.

How can you measure the errors in something by using the same device that has the same errors?!

If there are measurable differences (or improvements), I'd suspect the geometry of the laser refraction in an out-of-spec CD to crop up in a particular pattern throughout unique to that disc., caused by the point-source losing coherence in those spots. We'd need all the tracks, correction free takes (if possible), and takes from scuffed discs to be thorough. More interested if there's negligible non-zero effect one way or the other.

As I pointed out on the Tech Moan video, the graphs are not at all "mirrored." There are quite obvious asymmetries. This could be blamed on using two different Cd's. Why on earth would an analyst not stick with one CD to ensure a viable baseline? I.E, first graph a CD audio output, and run the same CD with the altered edge. It is also interesting to see that two CD's of the same performance could be so different in the graph. Granted, the mastering of the source material for the two CD's could be different enough to create the asymmetries on the mirrored graphs. I would have to say that this test is too flawed to come to any empirical conclusion. My own little experiment with a very revealing sound system was that a faint brittleness on the high end of certain recordings - especially piano - was noticeably reduced, and that recordings sounded a bit better organized and poised. I simply hand sand the CD edge with 220 grit sandpaper and the ink the edge with a black Sharpie.

There's only one way I can think of this stupid disc "tuner" could actually help. I remember having an audio CD (I think it was a No Doubt album) that was so badly out of balance that the act of spinning it up caused a lot of vibration noise from the drive itself. I betcha this thing could have fixed that.

Arguably, the best way to help a No Doubt CD is to throw it away.

A digital wave is an analog wave with digital encoding. That encoding and decoding can cause errors. It’s not perfect.

Yet CD transports can sound different. You can’t explain that.
@ian_5184

You can explain it very easily. It's due to differences in amplification circuitry and DACs. However, if the CD players have coaxial or optical output, the sound will be identical.

Wrong. Note I said CD transports not players. Even digital cables can change the sound. Explain that? You can’t.
