What is omitted in this piece, and is crucially important, is that her parents are Yemeni citizens, and were in the United States on diplomatic passports when she was born. Under U.S. law, children born in the United States whose parents are diplomats are not eligible for U.S. citizenship. So she was not stripped of her U.S. citizenship, the reality is that under U.S. law, she was never a citizen. Any U.S. passport issued to her was done so by mistake, and the courts have upheld U.S. law on the matter. The only place she can go is to Yemen, where she does have citizenship via her parents. However Yemen has vowed to execute any of its citizens who have affiliated with ISIS. It is a tough situation to be in, but at the same time, it is hard to have much sympathy for her.

I wonder how the Syrian and Iraqi authorities are dealing with these individuals? Although they are stateless, they are still foreign (Muslims), so to what extent can they deal with these people and hold them accountable for killing Syrian and Iraqi civilians on their land ( many of whom were Muslim too) and also destroying 2 very important countries in the Middle East? Just because an individual is Muslim or of Muslim background doesn't entitle or mean that it's free reign in Muslim majority countries - like the cult of ISIS have done. Maybe this individual and others (like Shamima Begum) have recognised the deep error of their ways, but even with regret and remorse for what they have contributed to ( the total destruction of 2 Muslim countries as mentioned above based on a subversive, demonic hijacking of Islamic teachings and obligations*), that regret or remorse may not be enough, but the Syrian and Iraqi people need to hold all those involved in the destruction of their counties in line with International Civil and Sharia law! (Maybe I'm being too romantic or idealistic...!) Aside from the other biased, narrow-minded, and Islamophobic comments which just solely represents the commenters' own foolishness and ignorance, can I also add that in the same way she betrayed the US, her and other people like her also betrayed the Muslim communities for condoning, supporting and even committing such horrendous acts? So before anyone starts talking about 'Taqia' or quoting Quranic verses out of context ( to feed your own bias and hatred) maybe you can put what I mentioned into perspective...?!?! *Also do some research on the 'Muslim Brotherhood' who are to blame for the *funkd* up ideological mess that many Muslims have found ourselves in up to this day. This group only create chaos and disaster whenever they go, and it's only in more recent times that authorities in Muslim countries are just waking up to their criminality...

@PoisonelleMisty4311

It is important to differentiate between self-pity and remorse. Self-pity is a feeling of sorrow or pity for oneself, often due to personal hardships or difficult circumstances. Remorse, on the other hand, is a deep regret or guilt for one's actions or behavior. In this case, the individual in question may be expressing self-pity for her current situation, but that does not necessarily imply that she feels genuine remorse for her actions. It is possible that she is more focused on her own suffering and hardship rather than reflecting on the harm she may have caused. Furthermore, the individual's background of radicalization and deception suggests that she may be skilled at manipulating others through lies and deceit. It is important to approach her statements with caution and skepticism, as there is a possibility that she is using her self-pity as a facade to mask her true intentions. Ultimately, it is crucial to critically evaluate the sincerity and motives of individuals who have a history of manipulation and radicalization, and to prioritize the safety and well-being of the community.

The victims of ISIS faced horrific violence and oppression at the hands of the terrorist group. Many of them were forcibly displaced from their homes and communities, leaving behind everything they knew and loved. Despite their wishes to return home and be reunited with their families, their lives were tragically cut short by the senseless brutality of ISIS. These individuals deserved the opportunity to rebuild their lives and reclaim their rightful place in their communities. Their untimely deaths serve as a stark reminder of the brutal consequences of extremism and the importance of standing against such atrocities. May their memories be honored and may we continue to strive for a future free from the horrors inflicted by groups like ISIS.

We have some women from Australia there as well and our government has refused to allow to return, the UK has also refused to take women back! The fact is people know right from wrong, Islam is accepted by many governments and I’ve known muslims and all of them absolutely condemn isis, this woman is making excuses for her self, she’s not a victim. A child is taught not to touch fire, hot stove because of the consequences, this woman didn’t believe she’d suffer the consequences, she’s entitled and is not believable! She absolutely chose her life, we are all vulnerable at some stage in our lives, especially when we go through puberty it’s a confused time we change, experience all sorts of emotions……most of us have a moral compass and know right from wrong, she chose to side with the horrific torture, merciless death, deprivation of basic human rights, she’s living her own choice

It's a sad story. Hoda is lovely and looks very healthy. One gal who did the same thing just had to recently face the fact that she couldn't return to the UK. It's a serious betrayal. Islamists should not live in modern Christian countries. It's simply incompatible. It's especially obvious now with the war with Palestinians. It has been quite an awakening. I wish her peace.

Sure she can be forgiven, she was young back then and was compliant. Isis wasn't well known early 2014, not to the general public anyway. It sounds like most users here don't want to put themselves in her shoes, understandable emotional reaction but not that rational. I'm fascinated that people think they can do better, when history has proven again and again anyone is capable of anything, especially when you find yourself among a group that normalizes division and violence. About losing her citizenship, that's a separate issue.
@jamalwilburn228

@Altairific ISIS didn't hide who they were. They openly showcased they were going to eradicate and kill anyone to achieve their goal of Islamic State. @@zimcanit6647 respected brother/sister, one must understand context and explanation before cherry picking verses of the Holy Quran. This chapter was revealed from God Almighty for the expedition of Tabuk due to the imminent threat of Byzantine forces who were plotting to invade Medina and kill the Muslims. It is by no means a permission for any Joe Bloggs to pick up arms against non Muslims, and many other Quranic verses and peace, loving and tolerant actions of our Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him attest to that. Islam is a merciful religion but by no means pacifistic. On a spiritual understanding our Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the greatest jihad is the battle against ones own lower self/ego/bad desires/nafs. This spiritual understanding is to battle with ones owns bad qualities to reach a state of spiritual purification. God Almighty says in the Quran that some verses have clear literal meaning and some metaphorical, in fact all of have both aspects, so we should avoid taking things at face value. This is the main problem with groups like Isis is that they don’t understand this and bypass the tradition of illumined scholars and Saints of Islamic history, making up their understanding and rulings from whatever Satan puts in their heads. Hope this helps

People make mistakes. Like one time I drank too much at a party and threw up all over my friend's mattress. Deciding to join one of the most notorious terrorist groups on the planet with plenty of video evidence of their atrocities all over the internet, then buying plane tickets, packing your bags, getting a ride to the airport, going through checkin & security, getting on the plane and actually joining the group is not a mistake. . It's important to take responsibility for our actions and learn from our mistakes, but joining a terrorist group is not something that can be easily forgiven or excused. It's a deliberate and dangerous choice that puts countless lives at risk. It's important to be cautious and skeptical of people who claim to be victims when their actions show otherwise. Ultimately, it's important to prioritize the safety and well-being of ourselves and those around us.
