So sensitive and hauntingly beautiful, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. One of my absolute favourite tunes/songs. I must have deep Celtic roots somewhere back in time…I do hope so. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting terminology, but I still remember that chilly early Sunday morn when first I heard a different version...it was fascinatingly erie...my adjectives...and every nerve up my back became electric. I enjoy once or twice a year seeing if there are any new YT renditions I haven't heard. This group of kids (or they were 12 years ago) & this arrangement is one of my faves! Sinead's, too. But if ya wanna hear 4-part acappella singing at its' best, check out Celtic Thunder's version. Wow!

Hypnotic. Exquisite. Sublime. Beautiful people, timeless and trend-free. Beautiful music this most evocative of Celtic mysteries. Inspired rendition by true artists who push the music not themselves. Transported blown away.

I’ve loved this song ever since as a 16 year old in 1969 I heard the late John Peel play Fairport Convention’s version on his radio show. To me nothing can beat Sandy Denny’s singing or Richard Thompson’s guitar accompaniment ( and he was just 17 at the time) Fond memories , but having said that this version is truly beautifully sung , played and arranged

You're so right. Sandy's voice and Richard's subtle grace notes make the Fairport reading inimitable .

Mesmerizing rendition of a very ancient folk song. If anything the acoustic guitarist who is so tastefully playing should have finger picked all the way thru. Intense camera work combined with an inspiring performance these musicians are totally immersed in the moment.

It is typically graceful of her, and also thoroughly appropriate, that Loreena McKennitt gives credit to the poet who composed the lyrics. In the introduction to "Collected Poems of Padraic Colum" (1953) John L. Sweeney writes of Colum that "oddly enough, he will be remembered by many who (as Yeats noted) have never heard his name. At least one of his poems, "She Moved Through The Fair", with an air composed by the late Herbert Hughes, has so securely acquired the status of folksong that it has been collected as such."
