My wife has told me she wants to divorce me several times over 23 years. I told her ok, but you have to file for the divorce. I am not filing for it. Also, she will be the one to tell the kids she wants the divorce. We still married. Stuff like that comes and goes in marriages. Women are emotional creatures. She always has the divorce incidents when she is emotional. Once she settles down, she is fine. I told her leaving is the easy thing to do. I could have left years ago, but I grew up in a single parent home. I don't want to see my wife work as hard as my Mom did raising kids, and I don't want my kids to grow up without both parents in the house. Again, leaving is easy, but my purpose in life is to keep my family together.

This!!!! So many people get confused in life because they think their purpose should be happiness. If your purpose in life is happiness…you’ll wake up every single day disappointed in your life. When you find purpose in helping others, in being a part of something greater than yourself wether that be your family your job your community, that is when you will look back at your life and say yes! We did it! We fought the good fight and finished the race. I fear for this next generation who believe that their pursuit of their own happiness should be the driving factor in everything that they do. My fear is that they’ll never discover any real purpose and unfortunately pass away pretty miserable and full of suffering because they’re so dead set on this journey of self. I once heard someone say that the secret to a good long lasting happy marriage is two people who know how to forgive!

I might be in a different situation, but I too wanted to keep the family together. With her constant disrespect, lies, and cheating. She wanted space, and wanted me to change, but she already have someone new on deck. I begged, I am a better person than I was a year ago and still she wanted time. She didn’t want a divorce, we moved out the hood, put our kid in the best school in the county. She wanted to benefit of us as a couple but still want someone new on the side. At some point you gotta have a back bone and have some self respect. So I walked. I started the papers as much as I wanted to keep it all together.

Only you know if staying is the right thing to do. My dad is a good man but my mom tried to divorce him several times, yet they never did it... All I can tell is I love and appreciate my dad for all his sacrifices, he could have left my mom for not valuing him but he didn't and besides that growing with him made me tough and strong. I don't know if it was the right thing for him, but I am so grateful that he stayed and I had him in my every day life. Whatever you choose, just make sure always to be there for your children

After 8 years of marriage and 3 children, my wife came to me one day and said she’d outgrown me, didn’t love me anymore and wanted a divorce. A few days later I was served papers at the front door by a process server. I cried like a baby. It’s been a few months now and I’m still so heartbroken. I found a therapist to help me navigate through this difficult period of transition. It’s easy to say “fuck her” or “move on” but she’s she mother of my children. I still love her and I don’t want my kids to grow up in a divorced family. But I also don’t want to have to beg someone to love me. It’s all very difficult. But, life is hard and you have to change.

I had a GF that would threaten to leave me every time I asked about other guys she was entertaining. I was completely good to her, gave her everything. She even would confirm that with all her comments on how great a man I was etc. However she had a problem, she was very disrespectful at times. She would say such things that were mind blowing, like I would be left in disbelief rather than angry, that bad. I finally had it one day with her insults and booted her. The same scenario with my ex wife on a bigger scale obviously and over 10 yrs. My point is that if the woman is acting like that then she's ready to go, let her go, be the man and take charge and initiate it. Don't live with a woman that does not respect you, they'll betray you every chance they get.

Seriously friends, if someone tells you they don't want to be with you and want a divorce, they truly mean what they say! If you think they are confused and speaking off emotions and you stay with them, they will either hate you silently for the duration of the time they are with you, cheat on you, use you after the fact while still pretending to "work it out" with you. I would say JUST LET THEM GO! You are too precious, too valuable to allow yourself to be with someone who doesnt appreciate your existence in their life. FUCK THEM 🔥.

Two long term relationships, my exes became complacent/comfortable that I was an independent and grind machine so I never asked them for anything and was always used to providing for mine and even more. Gave them chances after telling them I wanted to split and they never changed or worked to better themselves so I've learned to END IT and STOP wasting time on others and to stop caring about their feelings since it is in my nature to be empathetic to others. I have a good friend this happened to. I watched him crumble right in front of my eyes. No matter what I said, did or try to explain I could I not get through to him. As Mr. Goggins explained he sat in a dark room all day and she was out vacationing with her new BF 3 days after filing. After 3 years, he never got over it, was miserable to the point I could not even recognize him anymore. One day we met up, like we did everyday for coffee and he looked like a zombie. He got word that he had cancer. He died 3 months later with absolutely no joy in the later period of his life. He was only 39. I agree 1000% with David. Heartbreak has happened to all of us. It's how you handle it and move on. I hope this guy is OK. Great piece....David was compassionate, empathetic and really cared. But he said what had to be said. I did the same for my friend, but it didnt work and I wish it had. I miss my friend. I think about him every day and wish I could have done more. I truly believe she killed him emotionally, spiritually and psychologically and the immense stress he could not get over turned into cancer and killed him.

Hard as it is to hear, she did not destroy him. His reaction is what destroyed him. Some biological systems and a lot of conditioning tells us that we are nothing without a loving mate. Of course, there are advantages to life with a good partner, but we have a center that is bigger than any relationship. I feel for your friend that that seemed hidden to him. It might have led to his cancer, but we'll never know. Happily married people get cancer and die, too, I'm sure you did the best you could but there was likely a wall there that would have been hard to penetrate. That is between him and the cosmos. At my advanced age, I have come to entertain what may be a fantasy- that if a person dies younger than expected, they might be spared something even worse down the line. I don't know if that is comforting or not, but nobody really knows and it helps me.
