40+ years ago when I was a young teen a bobcat showed up in our back yard. It was winter and there was already a foot of snow on the ground and we just had two days of freezing rain so there was a thick crust of ice everywhere. The poor thing was a young female and she was crying obviously in distress. I didn't know it was a wild cat. I thought it was just an over grown house cat that some jerk abandoned. I offered it some food and water and it didn't even care that I was only a few feet away. It just gobbed down the food and guzzled the water. But it was very cold out and she obviously could sense the heat from the house. Without consulting my parents I let it come into our basement where my bedroom was. I set up some old couch cushions in the corner along with some old rags and a litter box using kitty litter left over from when we cat sit for a friend's cat the previous year. My mother came into my room a few hours later to gather laundry and what happened next was like the scene in E.T. where the mother see's E.T. for the first time. Both screamed very loudly and my mother ran in one direction and the bobcat ran in the other and my mother screamed at me to leave the basement for the safety of the first floor until my dad could come home and kill the beast in the basement. My father identified the cat as a bobcat and thought the whole thing was rather amusing. The poor thing was afraid of my mother but warmed up to my Dad pretty quickly and had already warmed up to me letting me pet it. For the next few months, until mid spring, she lived in our basement, venturing out only when it was comfortably warm and not raining or snowing. Like most cats, she was NOT fond of wet. She often curled up with me to watch TV in my room and slept either on her own bed but often slept with me in mine. She taught herself how to use the litter box but insisted I move it to another corner of the basement. Apparently bobcats don't like pooping near the bed. I conceded to her superior wisdom on this point. Bobbi finally left us that spring to set out on her own again. I missed her terribly but a little over a year later she came back with three cubs in the late fall and invited herself for another long winter stay. My mother was not amused but my father was very amused. Like me he also liked cats. After that we would occasionally get visits from Bobbi or one of her descendants for a few years. All of them were always very friendly and not just because we provided food water and shelter. One of her cubs often brought gifts of dead animals even in the summer. The last time we saw any of them was perhaps about 30 years ago. Cats are cats basically. They all have different personalities but almost all have several common traits. They are usually very social even those who are territorial providing they have enough resources. Once you gain their trust you usually have a friend for life. Cats are choosy who they make friends with though. A few years later I worked in a zoo and interacted directly with a very friendly lion who thought he was a house cat. He roared and scared the hell out of a lot of people who were terrified of him but he was just a big pussy cat half afraid of his own shadow who would rather chase butterflies than harm someone. Not to say one should simply walk up to any random large cat and try to make friends. It just doesn't work that way but sometimes if you are lucky one will want to make friends with you.

Beautiful. I'm so glad to hear that you helped her. She must have really trusted you to bring her cubs to you. Quite an unusual bond there. But also incredibly special as well. It must have been really cool to have her cubs and Grand cubs come for a visit. I'm kind of the same way with cats. When I lived with my cousin all the cats thought they were mine. Dillon the mother of my two was really only friendly with me. Well she would let the others pet her then she'd suddenly bite them. She didn't really do it with me though. I think it was because I knew when to back off.

I wouldn’t be that surprised if bobcats showed up on my porch, because I live in south Texas where they are kind of common. I have seen them in person, just in wooded brushy areas. xxwolf at heartxx that's the best thing to do! Although giving them food or water would be considered a kindness it is not the best thing to do as you not only risk your life and those of your friends or family (if they are with you) but you also run the risk if endangering the wild animal too! I assume you have at least heard of some crocodiles attacking people cause they didn't feed them yeah? (I don't mean to be rude here). So why chance your and their safety? If you really want to help them then donate to a wildlife charity or something.

Well!, I would! Look at those faces, those eyes, so gorgeous. I could not let them leave hungry or thirsty. It's so sad that the world is encroaching on their environment and that they are forced closer to civilization. I pray these dear animals found their way back to the wild without incident.

a local lady heard her cat screeching in the back yard and found a bobcat had her. Her cat was not harmed but 2 months later had to go to the vet to have a very large kitten delivered. The beautiful bobtailed kitten grew to be a huge tomcat that kept the local females as a harem with many bobtailed kittens ensuing. He was extremely bonded to his owner and when a man tried to break into her house the cat grabbed the man's arm as he reached through the window he had broken out. Shredded it. Any body who breaks into house knowing someone is home is up to no good, so he deserved that.

Darla Fnaf for one they'll come back to a food source, two you get them used to people. animals get taken out all the time bdcause they lose their fear of people. they become "pests" some animals you dont want wondering around your neighborhoods where young children and family pets wonder. as well because they lose their fear of people they become easy targets for sic fucks that get off on killing animals for fun. we dont live in the 1700, 1800 anymore where there is vast lands. do some research on animals that make their way into humanly populated areas. they will opt to relocate an animal if they can but many times they put the animal down because the animal has no fear of people and has become a "nusance". I love animals probably more than I care for people. it breaks my heart everytime I hear about a bear, a cougar, coyote ect getting taken out because of stupid human behaviour.

Anyone who chases animals off their property for no reason other than "it could be dangerous" are terrible people. Dogs are just as dangerous ive heard of people being ripped apart by their own for no reason other than aggression. Animals aren't inherantly agressive, humans are, animals are just hungry

I love Bobcats! I have 2 that actually come up to me at night while I have my nighttime cigarette outside. They were just kittens when I first met them 2 years ago and began feeding them. And we've been together ever since. I even built a small little structure for them to get into and be warm and dry on rainy called nights. They let me pet them and one actually has begun to jump on my lap over the past 2 months which is hilarious because my neighbors find them absolutely terrifying. LOL. I do have to admit though that when they come up to my sliding glass door for attention the noises they make can be quite scary if you're not used to them

Cats also don't usually keep on coming back over and over when not given anything past the first time so its just a first meal to keep them going ...it takes a strong heart to resist from feeding them more.

Nothing to be horrified about. Just call animal control. They are trained to humanely capture and relocate wild animals according to local laws. When wild animals get this close to human habitations they are usually looking for food (trash cans are a buffet to critters) or water. Sometimes, they are rabid, so a call to the local animal control office is in order here, not horror or terror. (Yes, Canadian cities and areas have animal control officers.)

They were wild but we're still pets as to the fact that when they were little when they showed up. something happened to momma and i found them crying on my front porch got them to trust me with milk and canned cat food. After a couple days they started letting me pet them and eventually started coming in my bedroom window to sleep in my bed. I guess I became Daddy because they stuck around for several years. It would do whatever I told it to like not going in to my bedroom or get on the counters or only sit on furniture where I had laid a towel. It would swim and unlike house cats it wouldn't stink up the place. It would dig a hole in the sand outside to pee in and bury it.

Thank-You for sharing w/us. 🐾❤️🐾 If i had 3 bobcats show-up here, i think i would have fed them & watched how they interacted with our 3 feral cats first, but if they didn’t seem aggressive, i would offer them more just to help protect them- our neighborhood isn’t safe for cats due to traffic & people who don’t know how to work with cats, so yes-they would become domesticated, but that isn’t a bad-thing here unless i was to take them back-out to the wild and set them free say.., out in Rose Valley?😳 Anyway, i have fostered over 150 cats and cared for 22 feral cats for the past 15 years plus we have 7 cats of our own that have simply shown-up here over the years as kittens wondering, so we get them well-checked, all their shots, fixed, etc. one of our older feral cats- a long-haired Harlequin female walked-in my flute-shop a few years back and made herself comfy so we decided to keep her and has become our best-behaved cat sense. This cat now sleeps next to me & sleeps in my lap daily, so i have no-regrets taking her in just like i can now pet, handle & pick-up all of our now “semi-feral” cats who i hope to eventually finish rehab work with so i can just bring them in with our other 7 cats & Chuweenie. 🐾❤️🐾

So some people are saying that as humans we have a responsibility to feed wild animals. I think they are called wild animals because they SURVIVE in the wild and are more at home there. I can understand if they are endangered and need to be protected. If you see one starving, dying ect you should call whatever animal protection agency you have in your country or something close to that. Taking in a wild animal is a danger to yourself, your family and to your pets. I have seen cases where people have taken care of wild animals. The animal started viewing them as a source of food, but they had nothing to give to them they attacked. Also Bobcats are extremely jealous and ill-tempered. If they see you extending any sort of affection to anything other than them or giving food to your pets or even a small child they will attack

Very cute! They look like Mama's got it under control and all are well-fed. You don't feed wild animals because 1) you condition them to come back which a) puts small CHILDREN as well as pets at future risk and b) puts them at risk from other humans. 2) you never know if something in our food will kill them or make them sick. WE don't for ourselves, really, much less wild animals! 3) you can make them dependent on humans and impair their ability to provide for themselves...have we learned NOTHING from bears? It's not being cold-hearted, it's being a responsible human being, really. If you find one injured or half-dead, by all means! Lend a hand and call your local wild life rescue, immediately!

I'd love to find those beautiful animals on my porch...I wouldn't be scared at all,I would be excited to see such a wonderful sight..but I hope people remember as cute as they are they are still wild animals..she did the right thing not to feed and water them, because they need to keep their wariness of humans intact for their own safety and well being...but they are stunningly beautiful photos :)

When they are babies they look like a new breed of cats. But I would own one of these.

I saw one walking down the sidewalk once in town. I had to do a double take when sitting in my truck at the light. They come by more often now since they cross the bridge to the woods.

The mama was raised by a human and she knew human home is a better lifestyle than the wild for her cubs. I think.

Bobcats aren't just "closely related" to the lynx. They are one of the four species of lynx!

This happens all the time in Arizona, they like to lounge on the furniture and drink in the fountain. Not happy when male sprayed my BBQ though.

Before I watched the video, I downloaded Grammarly from the commercial before the video. It works well and very pleased. As for the video, always keep a Wendy's Baconator on hand so you can throw it to said Bobcat and slowly walk backward.

Sometimes deforestation drives the wild animals to the city or suburban area in search for food, that's survival.... Poor creatures.. Huhu
