In 2007, while Amy Winehouse was still promoting her acclaimed second album, 'Back to Black,' she experienced another unexpected success.
Mark Ronson, the producer of her breakout album, invited Winehouse to lend her vocals to a track on his album 'Version.'
Ronson claimed that Winehouse did not listen to anything written after 1967 and was struggling to come up with something that would fit the sessions.
Surprisingly, she was a fan of 'Valerie,' a 2006 track by The Zutons.
Inspired by the song, Winehouse decided to give it a soul twist.
Although Ronson was initially unsure if it would work, he loved it as soon as she tried it in the studio.
The track soared to number two on the charts, spending 19 consecutive weeks in the Top 20.
A music video was released, featuring Ronson and a group of jazz musicians playing the intro, then pausing when they notice Winehouse is not present, before inviting a fan from the audience to lip-sync for the soul singer.
