A very happy birthday today to Shelby F. Wooley (his complete name) born on this date back in 1921...He hails from Erick, Oklahoma, as was a singer/songwriter, and an actor, appearing in the movies High noon, Giant, Hoosiers, and Rocky Mountain...Sheb also played Pete Nolan in the tv series Rawhide...Sheb probably is most remembered for his "comical" recordings, some of them recorded under the pseudonym Ben Colder...He placed a total of 8 songs on the Country Top 40 singles charts between 1962-1968, with 1 of those hits, "That's my pa", going all the way to #1 back on the week of March 17, 1962...and 1 last little-known fact: is that Sheb was the one who wrote Hee Haw's Theme Song!.. We lost Mr. Wooley back in 2003 at the age of 82, but as you have just read, he has left behind a VERY impressive line of work for all of us to enjoy for many years to come! Happy Birthday Sheb, and thanks to you Jack for a terrific song choice to remember him by! Take Care! Ms. Elizabeth :)

Absolutely. Nothing can beat the sound of a pedal steel guitar, especially when combined with twin fiddles!
