Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us!!! I learned a lot and found it very interesting!! It is a shame that such a sustainable product isn't utilized more but competing with cheaper products is just a losing battle I guess. Our world continues to move towards "greener" more sustainable products being "fashionable" so I'm cheering for the wool to make a comeback!!😁🙏 Again thank you for sharing your farm and knowledge with us!!! Your hat and scarf are beautiful!! Stay safe!!

Thanks. It is a shame about wool but I highly doubt it will come back unless something terrible happens in the world. But like you, I would love for it to make a comeback!

The US Military used to make all their uniforms out of wool because it's a natural fire retardant . Years ago we had a wool pool, and we got the best price after we joined. It used to be the shearer would shear sheep for the wool.

Wool socks and gloves? Wool for canoeing/camping/outdoorsman? The fact that wool is warm even when wet seems like it could be marketable. Also what about wool for dress pants or suit jackets/blazers since it is breathable? If you wear dress pants regularly in Florida for teaching, then that shiny synthetic stuff is terrible to wear even if it looks snazzy. It was awful. The wool/spandex or cotton/wool/spandex blends became my choice. I'm m also thinking you could take 2 cheap sheets and sew them together, then stuff with washed wool or felt, and make great blankets/comforters as far as functionality, but they might not look fancy. Baby blankets?

I love this video, right up my alley! I'm looking at property now and would love just have a back yard fiber flock, probably ewes and wethers. Shetland, Finn, and maybe an East Fresian to milk eventually and process the ram after. I don't eat lamb but my son and friend love it. I spin, knit and weave, just getting into dyeing and processing raw wool.

Thank you so much for all of this information. My cross-bred half-Jacob ewe is the most friendly. She absolutely loves to come up and get hugs. She's a big floof-ball of wool. I can bury my hand in her wool. Most of my full-jacob ewes have a much tighter fleece (and are less friendly to being handled). It's too bad that the cost of getting shearers isn't at least balanced out by the proceeds from the wool. In our difficult times, it's good to have sheep in case, as my 81 year old dad would put it, the world goes to hell in a handbasket. A renewable resource, and a pleasure to have around. I've seen the shetland in several of your videos and wondered if she was a shetland. She looks mighty fine for that age!!! My oldest ewe is 4 and doesn't look that good.

Wool used to pay for the shearing but not anymore. That is why when PETA claims sheep farmers are cruel for shearing their sheep it just makes no sense at all. It would be cheaper to just leave it on but we take it off for the welfare of our animals!

The two hopes for the future of wool are as insulation for homes and as a mulch product. They can make wool felted mats that will work as mulch and slowly breakdown to feed the soil. The insulation products are similar in R value and the way they are used as fiberglass batts are.

How many of y’all had this nursery rhyme going through y’all’s head? 🤣 Baa, baa, black sheep, Have you any wool? Yes, sir, yes, sir, Three bags full; One for the master, One for the dame, And one for the little girl and boy Who lives down the lane. Baa, baa, black sheep, Have you any wool? Yes, sir, yes, sir, Three bags full. I did 🤦♀️. Thank you so much Lynn for this insight into wool and a glimpse into your background with said wool. I found it extremely interesting and actually very sad that our lives don’t include more of this real natural resource that we have. Side note: hopefully babies and momma’s are starting to quite down for you today 😂. That has to be very stressful for all involved. Especially y’all’s ears. 😊🐑💜

Great nursery rhyme and another example of how sheep were an important part of our history. And don't forget: Mary had a little lamb Little lamb Little lamb! Mary had a little lamb It's fleece was white as snow! Mom's were much quieter today. Wasn't that noise awful! I could barely hear myself think!
