I am really starting to love your experimentation and explanation videos. They are so very useful to us beginners. I agree with what Robin C. Alves says below, and can't state it any better than he did. I am also appreciating that you're looking for techniques with lower cost materials; it would cost me nearly $100 Canadian to buy one litre (slightly more than a quart) of Australian Floetrol, so I won't be doing that unless I win a lottery. I did recently buy a gallon of the US Floetrol which was half the cost of a litre of the Aussie. Okay I think I've stated my case. Loving your videos; thanks for taking the time to share science and experimentation with us.

What if I am only used to down pillows, do you think I would have the same results in my bloom if I used goose down instead of latex enamel for the pillow? I am so glad you are explaining the reasoning behind the use of each product and not just what is mixed with what. Just like you, I am not satisfied until I understand the why and not just the how. Can you tell me a few of the most important facts you learned in the course which impacted your blooms? Did you say they give you several different recipes and then are you expected to decide which one to use or how do they help you in that regard because there are many variations on products and proportions for the bloom technique which has me confused as to which products to use,which recipe to use,and which to ignore at least for now. For example do I use the Jo Sonja or the polyacrylic or use the GAC or its not needed or do I use the glue and minwax recipe or the aussie floetrol instead. How are these topics discussed in the course? Thanks again
@LeftBrainedArtist
3 жыл бұрын
Goose down would definitely be a mixed media mess! 8) Honestly, choose one and master that one. Then try variations. Almost every one I have tried has worked to some extent with a little tweaking as I practice. My preference is to use the simplest and cheapest materials and then work my way up to the exact ones that Shelee and company use. OMG!! 🤯 I haven't even started doing the actual painting yet. Just buying the stuff $$$ I have watched sooooo many video's and I'm a pretty fast learner. Here's what i haven't found yet... How much paint does it take per canvas size?? I found your chart about the different types of pours very helpful. Here's my other question...quite often the painting looks amazing before it's spun. Am I the only one who thinks that?? I yell at my TV to STOP don't do that leave it be. It's beautiful as is then it's spun and looks worse and distorted. Oh and have you ever tried using just plain polyurethane mixed in with anything?? I think it's awsome that you really do read and answer your comments.❤ I'm not on all those other social media sites and don't have time to follow everyone but i do love you and your amazingly sarcastic t-shirts. Every technique is slightly different. The sheleeart blooms are even more different than most. Generally you should expect to use an ounce of paint per 25 square inches of surface area. I have a calculator and an explanation blog on my website here - leftbrainedartist.com/calculator/ The beauty of abstract painting is that we always see things so differently. Lots of things people do don't make sense to me but they love their results so who am I to complaing? I am sure people say the same about my work. 😆😉

@LeftBrainedArtist
3 жыл бұрын
Almost all house paint is latex based paint, at least in the US. They have oil and even acrylic paints at the hardware store but most of the quart plus sizes are going to be latex. This the type paint we mean when we are talking about house paint.

When you say pigments, what is that? I keep hearing that a lot!! Can you give us a link to some pigments?
@LeftBrainedArtist
3 жыл бұрын
Pigment is the thing that actually holds the color. Usually it is in powder form and is mixed with an acrylic polymer and together they make the paint. Thing of grinding up dried purple lavender to make a light purple pigment, or grinding up sandstone to make a tan pigment, etc.
@XiagraBalls
Жыл бұрын
So a 'Base C' is a 'Base 3' white in the UK and is an undercoat? From what I've read it's down to the level of white pigment (Titanium DiOxide and Talc e.g.) in the paint. You want a low density so the pigments work, right? So it's an undercoat you need, rt? As the canvas has already been Gesso'd (so not a Primer)? I'm just a bit confused as to what to buy.
@LeftBrainedArtist
Жыл бұрын
For the medium for your colors and pigments you want base C/3 because it has NO white in it. That way you only get a nice sheen of the color you are trying to create and without any white it doesn't make the color loo pastel. For the pillow you want a satin like finish of regular white paint.

I absolutely didn't want to give away information that Sheleeart provides in here course. I don't feel like it is mine to divulge and I haven't found a different way to achieve the same results . . . yet. When I do I might do a more detailed video that does infringe upon my fellow artist's intellectual property. My idea was only to explain why the pillow, the special paint mixture, and the cell activator work together to allow the Sheleeart blooms to "blossom" while providing a students perspective of the course and it's worth. There are are lots of ways to make cells for sure. This is only one of many. As always Barbara, thank you for your honest feedback. It is always appreciated, whether good or critical. 💙

That used to be true, the newer paints will last years and years without problems. Just think about how much sunlight the paint in your house gets and if it changes color dramatically over time. I do not like the bloom technique. Some of the paintings are so full of those cells that I think they look ugly.. I do not know what is so appealing.
