Hi. Oh, by the way, in England and Australia, this is known as "cottage pie" because it's made with beef instead of lamb. It's called "cottage pie" because they keep their cows at the cottage, but they keep their lambs inside their house.

@@yousuckatcooking actually it's called Hachi Parmentier after the man who popularised potatoes in France. He got the the King to guard (very poorly by design) a field of potatoes. Thieves had a field day, and potatoes became popular.

YSAC you are probably the most talented YT cooker. You have an amazing humor, good at matching music with the food you're making (almost gives me a countryside vibe), and if course, I love your cooking. I hope your YT channel will stay busy until you turn 100 years old and not allowed to play with lego.

Fun canadian fact! Canadian's Shepperd pie is called Chinesse's pie and consist off a layer of cooked ground beef, a layer of corn and a layer of mashed potato. French canadians even turned the receipe into a short catchphrase to prove how easy it is to cook: steak, blé d'inde, patate! (and I would rather have that as a national dish than Poutine...)
@ernstschmidt4725
3 жыл бұрын
amazing! here chileans make this (with a similar but simpler filling [mince and onions]), but it's literally called potato cake, even if it's more like a potato pie than a cake. also it has random chunks of eggs, olives and sometimes even raisins or pulled chicken.

Note: if using beef do not call this a Shepards pie near an English person. They will expect lamb and be a bit upset. They might insult you and say "this is a blooming cottage pie you donky!"

cottage pie can be made out of any meat, shepherd pie is a subclass of cottage pie. Also because YSAC added cheese on the end techically you could call that a cumbria pie. But it still is a cottage pie, as cumbria is a subclass of cottage

It is so weird that out of all the American KZitem chefs I've seen, the one who's whole bit is that he takes the piss, is the one who at least mentioned that Sheperd's Pie is traditionally with Lamb and also pronounced Worcestershire sauce pretty bang on.

Quick note from an Englishman, using beef mince makes it cottage pie! However, this is a great recipe and pretty much bang on how it's made traditionally. That aside, my family and others we know serve with baked beans (and it's incredible). Not sure if maybe this is an area thing but I urge everyone to try it!

I just made this, didn't include the worchestershire saue, red vinegarstershire sauce, apple corn, or dead herbs. Still turned out the best thing I've eaten in years. As it went into the oven and I started on the stack of dirty pots and pans, I figured I would never make this again because of the prepwork required. Then I took a bite. I was wrong. I think I will be having this every Sunday for the rest of my life. It's so good. I'm actually afraid to make it as depicted in the video; I might not survive the experience.

If it's made with beef, instead of lamb, then it is Cottage Pie, instead of Shepherd's Pie... and with the cheese grated on the top (before putting it into the oven), it's Cumberland Pie. If it's made with fish, then it is Fisherman's Pie. I do not know what it called when/if it's made with pork, chicken, rabbit, venison, soybeans, etc... ^^;

If you buy fresh herbs, cut them up and freeze them. Make sure they're dry. It'll give you a dry freeze and preserve them, therefore they won't rot. Better than just the dried out stuff
