ShaCarri is not losing to Alfred or and other Islanders in the 100m point blank. Her top speed is unmatched. If SháCarri has ran all of this girls down already. And this Olympic SháCarri is making up for the one she missed. As a matter of fact SháCarri & Melissa Jefferson is going One Two and TT is also not to be slept on.

I You make a great point about the administrative failures in Jamaica sports. As a Jamaican this poor administration paints my heart . Jaaa etc is just sick

These issues are avoidable; they should not happen, especially in the context of Jamaican track and field, given its global significance. The world watches closely, and with the experience Jamaica has in this sport, these types of problems are inexcusable. It just doesn’t look like a well-run operation when basic challenges arise. This situation calls for a re-evaluation of the organization and its structures. It raises the question: how much better could it be if it were running smoothly? If there’s already some level of success despite these issues, imagine how much more could be achieved with a more tightly managed operation. There’s a lot more that can be done to support the athletes and ensure their success.

@MichaelMooney-ci4cc I was a track athlete in Australia in 70s. I had great success over 100 and 200 under 11 and 22 consistently. There is no such thing as saving yourself for the 200 and giving up the 100 even on the same day. If anything the shorter sprint is a warm up and great adrenalin boost 👏

I fully expected this. She has been out of form the entire season and when I saw her pull up with a cramp in her last 200m, I knew she would eventually have to drop the 100m.

@@SportsTalkTech I will have to see her first race in the heats. But one thing i am sure of, she isn't getting anywhere near her pb and with her current form, gabby is gonna make her work for the gold medal. I still pick shericka to win but it will be a close race.
@SportsTalkTech

I agree. She has also mentioned that she won't be aiming for any world records or personal bests. If she's in good enough shape and able to execute well, you'd hope she can at least get around 21.6-7seconds. It might take that kind of time to win. If she can't reach that level, then I think Gabby Thomas will definitely take the win.

As for Tia, she has risen beyond expectation, so maybe we are about to see something phenomenal from her. It is easier to second guess her chances, but speed is what gets the best results, and not necessarily age and / or experience. Maybe Tia might continue to surprise us. Her 10.86 puts her in contention for a spot on the podium, especially with any further improvement. With the absence of Shericka, this becomes more of a possibility. I don't think many of the other women are as mindful of her as they would about Shericka and Shelly. The next thing is that both the Clayton twins are extremely passionate about achieving, and so they are driven about succeeding. Add to all that, Tia is well coached. Rest assured that she will take some catching out of the blocks. As for Shericka, I am disappointed. It has been that kind of year for the Jamaican top sprint queens. We just have to respect her decision. Running track/competing is her career, so managing any health issues is crucially important.

Thanks for contributing, Noel. I agree with your points on Tia. Tia Clayton is a really special talent. You’re right to highlight her superb run in the semifinal-if she can build consistency from that, who knows what might happen. Coach Francis has also mentioned that he expects her to go even faster, so the potential is definitely there. If we were to see another performance like in 2008, a lot of people would be thrilled. Regardless of where you’re from or who you support, moments like these create a real buzz in the sport, especially when someone unexpected steps up and delivers. As for Sherika Jackson, it’s definitely an interesting situation. We all hope that everything is being done in her best interest, and I don’t doubt that it is. With a few more days to prepare, I’m optimistic that she’ll be ready to fire for the 200 meters. But we’ll have to wait and see. For now, let’s enjoy the first weekend, which will, of course, bring all the excitement of the 100 meters.

It seems like they're aiming to give her the best possible chance to compete in her strongest event, the 200 meters. The extra time might be intended to protect her from breaking down, as the 200 meters is slightly less explosive compared to the 100 meters. Though it will be tough, its unlikely she needs to be in 21.4-second shape to win, but if she can reach 21.6 seconds, she should be in a good position. It’s still going to be a challenge, but the additional time could help her sharpen up and perform at her best.

Honestly, I'm not sure. There are a few possibilities. It could be that she's fit and ready, and they're focusing on giving her the best chance to win the 200 meters, so they're opting to skip the 100 meters. Another possibility is that she's fit and healthy but just needs a few more days to sharpen up. It might also be a case of them biding their time. I really don't know. I guess the best indication of her shape will be when she competes in the 200 meters. We'll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds.
