8:47 "Sometimes, in this life, you meet people who are what you might call 'large-souled'... who are a privilege to know." You can see Holmes dwelling on that a bit. That description has stuck with me ever since I heard it. I've met only one person in my life that I think truly fits it.

I'm glad you put these clips back. I don't see why the owner is so precious about copyright. It's not as if the videos are available in shops or that any TV channels are airing them.

OK this is a silly observation - but the dog "Fudge" reminded me that the actor who played Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter film series also portrayed (very well) the Master Blackmailer Charles Augustus Milverton in this series.

At 2.40 is that a electrical cable with clips in running around the top of the fire place? was electricity in homes in that period?

Technically, yes. Although very uncommon. Electrification started in the early to mid-1880s, and since this is a wealthy estate, it might have some electrical lighting. However, I am sure the cable we see is in fact, modern :)

In the story "The Hound of the Baskervilles", Sir Henry Baskerville mentions plans to install "Edison" electric lights in the old Baskerville Hall mansion.
