Fantastic performance...in his prime, Shicoff was the best tenor in his generation.

That is a fearless high C slightly past the 3 minute mark!!! Neil Shicoff has brought incredible excitement to a variety of roles over a 30 plus year career.

One of the greatest Romeos, along with Werthers in operatic history. This is indeed a great, magnificent tenor!!

Just sensational. One of the best best best to sing this role. To my ears only the 1947 Bjorling can compare.

What a gorgeous voice! As far as I am concerned, he is among the greatest of tenors, and I am sorry we don't hear more of him in the US.

@@SilverSingingMethod Vocally he seemed to me to move the sound of the middle voice more and more forward until it was frankly nasal. Once above the passaggio the top remained ringing, but I think by the time he got to his famous Eléazar the basic sound was not very attractive, which he made up for by intense ethnic identification with the part.

Ok true the French is poor - for decent language use check out Alagna's clip of this aria. But the voice - hello! Just awesome!

Strange how bad his French was, and also in the part that meant so much to him, Eléazar.
