I love this rig. I fish it all the time. It's really cool when you hear the drag scream when you stick a fish on it.

Sweet! Yeah I can’t wait to catch something on it! 😃🤙🏽 I definitely need more practice with the super light stuff, haha it was way harder than I thought it would be. 😂

The reason it's going hard left is because the spool tension is too tight. Also don't flip it hard. Do a smooth cast. I just got mine in today. I've been using a different BFS reel. In your video you said your drag star was plastic. Mine is metal. Have fun. 😁

I actually had the spool tension really loose here. The brakes were up too high though and I was definitely casting too hard for sure. I hadn’t taken it apart yet either and removed the grease from the bearings which helped. I still don’t use this reel for tiny tiny stuff but it’s great for like 3/16-1/4 ounce baits. The drag star isn’t straight plastic but I think it’s actually that carbon material they like to use instead of metal. Like a magnet won’t stick to it if you try 😁 Fun reel though for sure, just more of a bass bfs reel not a trout bfs reel if you know what I mean. 🤙🏽

My understanding in BFS is that the Rod is critical... you need a rod (7' +) that will load up correctly on the cast with light gear. Thanks for the video.

No problem 👊🏽😊 I have more experience with BFS gear since making this video haha my main bfs rod is a 7’4” definitely takes time to get the release point down on these super light whippy rods. A lot of rods are way shorter too, but they are more for trout fishing. Thats the other thing. This reel in particular is more of a bass fishing bfs reel, it’s not really designed to throw extremely light trout magnet style baits from what I’ve heard. I actually use it mostly for like 1/8-1/4 finesse stuff and it’s really fun. 😎🤙🏽

Haha yeah man especially when it’s brand new. Drop a little oil on the screw that holds it in place for sure, and if you want you can loosen that screw a tiny bit to free it up, but you have to be careful and gentle with it and like barley loosen it. I never do that but you can if you really need to. The oil sinking in behind that screw should help and you can just move the dial back and forth a bit to try and work it in. Should loosen more and more over time as well. 🤙🏽

That’s pretty cool. What kind of rod did you match it with? Small weightless flukes would be great on it too.

you need to upgrade your to more shallower spool, you want cast any lure under 4g (roughly about 3/32oz)
@WhereWeWild

More shallow huh? 😳 And probably lighter also. Crazy. I probably won’t ever really want to throw stuff that light with it but it would be cool to be able too. 😁🤙🏽

@@WhereWeWild there’s a spool on hedge hog studio that is made for the Slx and curado bfs from Avail which is the brand who make them call the Avail SHIMANO Microcast Spool 21SLX15R, it’s roughly only 1.5mm deep only

That's a very shallow spool. What's the reason for that? Easier casting?
@WhereWeWild
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think it helps the spool spin faster helping casting distance on light lures.

Great video and breakdown of the reel. Didn’t know Shimano made a BFS reel. Just looked on Amazon and saw a Curado BFS as well. Just getting into BFS myself, building a couple of BFS rods to use.

@@jeffreyblair1820 Thanks man! I plan on ripping it all part in a another video. 😁🤙🏽 And nice yeah it’s from Japan only… jdm reel. The Curado is on the American market. I linked this reel on Amazon and digitaka Japan… Sold out a lot, but you can find em. The SLX, Curado, and Scorpion bfs are very very similar. Curado and Scorpion are like exactly the same. They both just have 2 more bearings than the SLX. Basically the same inside and out other than that.

looks like your rod is too heavy to be throwing 1/8th, need to go with an UL rod. Its not the reel that's the issue.
@WhereWeWild
Жыл бұрын
It’s a Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse. Light. 1/16-5/16oz It’s a BFS bass rod. Definitely not an UL trout rod, but it’s extremely light. This was also my first attempt ever at throwing something that light on a caster… lol definitely takes some practice to find the release point. It’s so different. Sometimes, haha I actually run this reel on a heavier Medium Light now and bomb weightless soft plastics and other small finesse stuff with it which is really fun. 😎😁🤙🏽
