The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight kzitem.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

I suffered badly from PTSD after multi able overseas deployments. Drinking feeling scared , sad and angry were my main activitys in the lonely dark times after separation . Lure fishing for bream and flathead got me outdoors in the fresh air and excercising again . The constant concentration needed and the thrill and excitement of of a successful outcome in the beautiful outdoors has helped me enjoy life again . After 7 years thanks to something as simple as fishing (loved ones too) my life is back on track and i can really savoir life with my family , friends and be part of the community. To all veterans and suffers of PTSD out there I highly recommend getting out and tossing some lures around , there are so many benefits and you get a fresh feed of fresh !

Hey mate! Thanks for doing this first of all, love the videos and the channel. I got into fishing over covid, about two years ago. Lost my job and had a bit of rough go at it, and I think it was a powerfish video where he said "just get out and do it, it's good for your head". Smashed landbased, went up and down the coast of SEQ hunting bream and bass, got a kayak, and have been going out every weekend rain hail or shine since. Fished as a kid of course in Cairns growing up, but that's the story of rekindling the love of it! Now it's all lures and plastics from a kayak wherever I can, while saving for a boat haha. Your channel is a dream mate, thanks again, and all the best.

Great review and killer reel. Man. Just wow. I started fishing over 15 years ago with my dad. (Bait fishing with no real luck and plenty of disappointment) 2 years ago my dad and I rediscovered fishing and started using lures. It’s been a huge learning curve from there. It’s brought a new love for the sport and the push to learn more and more. It’s been great to reconnect with my dad as he’s had some mental struggles and it’s given us both some 1 on 1 time on the water.

When I was 18 I started going to the tackle shop more and befriended staff, they taught me the intricacies and got me into light line fishing (smart business model). I started comp fishing and haven’t looked back. Always learning and love how far the industry has come of late. Some good new technology. Seabream there's alot of different species of fish....i love to catch barr's, treadfin salmon , grouper's and🤔 all of them ....if i keep on writing i will end up writing a book i think there's so much to talk about and it goes on and on.....i feel very sad when i see videos of the Chinese fleet of ships just distroying the ecological balance by using extreme methods of fishing, its so scarry when once thinks how its gonna effect the future generations ....

Another great review BTH, interesting to see the totally new tech that Shimano have introduced. Been fishing since I was in primary school, so at least 28 years. Was a mad keen youngster, riding my bike down to the local jetties and rocks at five in the morning and staying there all day. As I became a teenager the usual things took up most of my attention and I only came back to fishing in my mid twenties. Been spending all my spare money on the hobby ever since. Just had my first child a couiple of years ago so can't wait to get a rod into her hands ASAP!

Loving the content Byron. Easy to understand and watch. I started fishing roughly 20 years ago. No one really fished much in my family, but I saw people fishing and wanted to give it a go. Not long after I was organising mates to come, so I could get out there more... getting dropped at the creek for a few hours of yabbie pumping and catching the usual whiting, bream and flathead. I soon discovered using plastics I would catch more flathead consistently and fast track to now, I almost exclusively use lures.

As opposed to all the high end Daiwa reels I have owned, I still possess and use EVERY Stella I have ever bought, going back 15 years. They just keep going, and unlike Daiwa they have zero paint problems over time: I always end up selling-on my exists etc after a few years. When living in the NT and catching barra on light tackle, many expensive Daiwa reels were ruined by the stress of powerful fish. Yet even my 1000 sized stella held up to 70-80 cm barra on light fluoro and 2-6lb rods.

I have been fishing since i could walk but really got into fishing around age 15-16 when i started using lures which is what got me really passionate about fishing just the idea that i was tricking a fish to eat a piece of plastic was so cool, the idea that fishing was a little less about luck when using lures made it all the more intriguing, lures pretty well made fishing my addiction

I fished as a kid and had a huge break. I returned to fishing in a serious way in 2010. This has led to 12 years of reels, rods, nets, boats and hundreds and hundreds of lures. I’m almost exclusively a lure fisher who focuses on natives in my local waterways and bream/Flathead in the salt. I regularly compete in the Canberra on the Water Native Cup where I’ve won twice. I finished 2nd in the 2020 Pirtek “NSW Flathead” with a 89cm Fish out of a tiny NSW coastal estuary. My passion for fishing is complete and watching your videos is starting to raise my interests in perhaps doing a couple of non boater rounds in the ABT soon. Love the vids and your approach to the medium is refreshing.

Hey again Byron! I really enjoyed that review, I actually love some of the tech stuff you talked about at the end, and really interested in that slow oscillation as a better method of laying line! I remember fishing about 40 years ago with my dad in the lake at Forster using prawns and handlines. I didn't fish again until my mid 30s when I took the kids out using the same kind of gear while on holidays in about 2004. My Lure fishing happened almost by accident when I kind of got sick of rebaiting my kids lines when I had the family in the tinny we decided to buy after another holiday about 15 years ago! I bought a ET Shimano setup from Big W and away we went! I was pretty much self taught until I discovered Starlo and Bushies DVDs and then I really got into squidgies as a soft plastic I just keep going back to!

My first fishing experience was when I was 8 years old caught 3 carps on float rig with my dad, and that is really memorable. But I never been fishing again since that. Then I started going out fishing around 8 years ago and fishing is kind of something that I really enjoy doing. Regarding the Stella, those new techs is something that really more functional compared to Exist, where Exist is focused on the “experience” and looks

Shimano really knows how to make good looking reels, nice to see it has so many upgrades, it stands out from its competitors! I have been fishing for around 8 years. My mate got me into fishing. We started with bait fishing but now I prefer lures. We haven't fish together for a long time after he had kids but I will never forget the feeling when he taught me and I land my first fish :)

Hi Byron! This reel looks amazing!! I started fishing with my aunt when I was little she tought me a lot and how to fillet and cook. Every weekend we went to a cabin and took the boat out. Best memories. When I got older and started working I forgot fishing and just about 2 years a go came to Australia and went camping and bought a cheap combo just a try and got hooked again immidietly. Have been fishing since then everyday on my days off and still love it. I’m so happy that I found the passion for fishing again and here in Austalia it’s even more exciteing. Loving your videos always waiting a new one to come up! Have a good one cheers

Fished since I was a kid more as thing to do rather than as a passion for it (Probably because I never caught anything). The bug really bit when me and some mates hired a houseboat on the Hawkesbury River about 15 years ago, and I caught a massive flattie on a handline. From there I bought a new rod and started off as a baito before finally transitioning to lures

Hey Byron! Thanks for all the great content you put out I appreciate the guidance as it has helped me improve my fishing journey. I started fishing 7 years ago after my father got into a serious car accident. He was an expert fisherman in my eyes and after the accident he lost the ability to drive, walk properly and use his arms to even lift a rod. I was his chauffeur driving him around many coastal areas and he would teach and watch me fish while he laid back recovering from his injuries. Today, we go fishing together on a weekly basis and its become my passion! Bless you and thank you for this chance for my dream reel!

Such an awesome looking reel and great review! Reckon I've been fishing for about 25 years with my first memory of fishing being a fish taking my rod off the bank in to the Mitchell river and dad jumping in after it. My old man got me into fishing but not in a serious way when I was around 8 years of age but Dad loved his crabbing and prawning. I can remember many a day going hooking for Mud Crabs back when it was legal to do so, coming home half eaten alive by mossies & midges. My next door neighbour Doug who was one of the founding members of Reliance Fishing Club was the biggest influence on most of us kids in our neighbourhood, I remember all us kids would gather round to see what Doug had caught from a night's fishing trip to the Passage or Pin, etc., etc., on a Sunday morning or his annual trip to Fraser Island with his mates when a big Jewie would hit the table (a true gentleman & a great bloke). It was also my oldest brother by 7 years Dennis and Doug's sons Kevin & Colin who were a good mates of mine that taught me the basics. Teaching me the ropes 'so to speak ' by taking me on a club trip every now & then, fishing the local waters. Then football, surfing and girls came into the picture for a few years but when Doug asked me if I wanted to join the club, I jumped at the chance and learnt so much from those older guys in the club, they had so much knowledge. I guess that lead to fishing on trawlers and fishing the Great Barrier Reef commercially, I'm now 57 and remember those days fondly.

That was brilliant! The fine details and engineering in this reel are something else. Love the attention you give to the nuts and bolts of what make high end gear appreciable. Loving this channel, and a must do for anybody who is serious about our sport. How I got into fishing was through my dad. It was the 1970s And the Tambo river is where I have my fondest memories . Dad would pull us out of school on a Friday just before lunch time to drive the 3 hours to the Nicholson Hotel where we stayed. In those days we were land based, and it wasn’t unusual to catch so many Bream you could have fed the whole street. Thank goodness things have changed and bag limits are now in place to preserve the stocks. I am also a catch and release angler now which is awesome. Even to this day It brings a tear to my eye when I fish the Tambo ,reminding me of my dad, and the wonderful times we had.

Another fantastic review Byron. I have been fishing for 22 years, admittedly on and off. Fished my younger years with my father but have always had fishing as the family bonding experience. Many days spent with my older brother and sister getting sunburnt and catching nothing 🤣 days I wouldn't trade for anything. Definitely at my peak of my fishing career though and can't wait to spend more days catching fish.

I have been fishing since I was about 5 so for 38 years now. I started catching flathead off jetties that we used to eat. I then got into trout fishing here in Tasmania and that became my obsession from about age 10 and I used to go camping with my dad. That then progressed to me getting my licence, a dinghy and chasing all sorts of fish and entering a few trout competitions. Now I have upgraded to better equipment and fish any comp I can, fish with my daughter and fish for many more species. I don't need an excuse to fish and I enjoy the serenity of getting away by myself chasing trout on surface of a night. Being able to share my passion with my daughter is something I cherish.

Hey Byron, Great review. I’ve been fishing for 35+ years. Started bream fishing with sand worms in the Tambo with dad, we didn’t catch much back then. Then moved to trout and fly fishing at 13yo and have been a die hard fly fisher since. Then during lockdown the only thing accessible was the Maribyrnong so I started targeting bream with soft plastics. I found a few channels that had Maribyrnong river content and I’ve been focusing on bream sp’ing ever since. That’s how I found your channel. I can spot the fish along the edges which is what’s exciting for me. These nong fish keep kicking my butt tho, super picky and more fickle than trout

How long I’ve been fishing well I was brought up fishing with my dad from a lil tacker until into my 20’s and my dad passed away and that lost my motivation to fish cause I lost my fishing mate and best friend Now into my 40’s I’ve got my mojo back for the last few yrs and now fishing with my kids and grandkids experiencing what my father got to have when he was fishing with his kids So I’d say in my mind I’ve been fishing all my life just without my mate but in spirit. Hi Byron, thanks for the great quality videos and sharing your fishing knowledge. I started fishing when I was growing up in Fiji (10 years of age), spend hours on the break wall watching others fish (learning, no youtube before), no one in my family was into fishing. Started with some fishing lines tied to the end of an empty coke bottle, piece of lead or coral, hook and some free blood worms from the muddy shore, ahhh that feeling when I felt the first tug :)) absolutely love that feeling then upgrade to a hand reel. Came to Aus to study, finally able to get myself a rod and reel :)), been fishing more frequently about 5 years now, started learning more about lures, soft and hard from your videos, caught a flattie on soft plastic Zman and caught a bream on cranka crab :)) hopefully able to enter a tournament one day. Cheers🎣

Another great piece of content Mate. Love the unbiased approach and personal perspective. You have a way of letting the consumer make up their own mind. I started fishing as a child with my Pa in the local creek. Using un-weighted prawns and bread for bream and mullet on makeshift hand lines (line wrapped around glass coke bottles) lol. Still the best fishing I have ever done!

Hey Byron, I don't really know when I stated fishing it was something my grandfather taught me when I was a baby. My mum has photos of me when I was 2 or 3 fishing with him and that's 28 years ago. I only ever fished with my grandfather when I saw him 2-3 times a year. It wasn't until after his death I started understanding a bit more about fishing and started paying more attention about 7 years ago.
