The South Korean dictatorship of the 70s wanted him to record an album that praised them. Instead, he composed a love letter to Korea. Much respect to the man.

@@goforbroke4428 Sorry, at that time South Korea was ruled by a dictator with no freedom in the country : Shin Joong Hyun and many others paid the price. Of course, it changed a lot and now it's a free country, which North Korea, of course, is not, far from that.

@@cecildemille190 wartime nations are not ever free. At the time that Park Chung hee was leading the country, there was still a big problem with North Korean infiltrators and a chance of the hostilities starting back up. When the threat of possible war started to go away South Korea became freer, it is not free today because there are certain rights the people don’t have.

As a 19 year old Korean born and raised in the UK by my parents who moved here to give me a better life, with both me and them facing racism and bullying our entire time here. Discovering this album now really did something for me, the sheer emotion in it, him refusing to give into the dictatorship government and to make this album about Korea, not the man who ruled over Korea, but Korea and the beauty of Korea. He knew that this would lead to consequences and he was tortured and then essentially snubbed out of the industry by the government, but this is the true Korean spirit that I’m proud of. Fighting for your country, doing it for your nations people. Embrace monke, reject civilization

junetaker64 Park Chung Hee fought the North Koreans during the war, many more Koreans did more for that country than this man by serving on the DMZ. Don’t bring in your pathetic nature, this man made good music but do not make it look like this was him fighting for Korea. He can’t touch a hair on the asses of the ROK soldiers that fought along the DMZ and in Vietnam from the period of 1953 to the 1980s.
