I'm aware this comment was made two years ago but I had a similar experience but I was already a huge fan of Shinedown. As they have been my favorite band for about nine years now. And i stumbled upon this song trying to memorize all of their songs and albums to prove a point (i was edgy and filled with vengeance for being disbelieved) and I had never actually heard this song before and once I did I fell in love with it and it was most played song for at least a few months. I feel by now I've failed to make a point to this story I just felt like sharing my experience

This story is not about a girl losing her virginity. What had inspired Lewis Carroll to write the novels of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was his dean’s daughter Alice. He was very interested in Alice’s emotions and reactions to his stories when he came up with crazy fantasy lands while he would watch over her. He was very amused to find that most other children responded in the same way. He was entertaining them in a way so that they didn’t really need to think. His stories didn't have a moral, they were just plain odd. He simply wanted stories that you didn’t have to think about, to be an outlet for kinds in the high strung area. Carroll’s plot, nor setting, held any form of significance. He simply wanted to make it seem as if the reader stepping into the strange yet beautiful imagination of an innocent child. Carroll managed to get his point through flawlessly and truly transports the reader. The conflict was also based around what a child may see as a conflict. The entire story was solely created to suit a child’s thought on the world. Although I understand that there are many versions of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll aka Charles Lutwidge Dodgson wrote the original novel and I'm sick and tired of seeing that it is about a girl losing her virginity.

I don't really think most people see it as a girl loosing her virginity, but a girl escaping into a world of her own where no one can hurt her. A girl escaping into her own little realm where she can have all the freedom she truly wants.

This song reminds me of my sister, consumed by addiction and madness. I sing this song with so much emotion every time because no one else understands that deep, deep, deep beneath the horrible actions and choices she commits to, there is a twelve-year-old girl, begging the addiction which controls her to stop... stop hurting the ones she loves. Her name is Alice in a way. She made the mistake of dipping into this fantasy world, and now she cannot escape... I've made a similar mistake. But I will bring this whole thing down. I will find a way to bring her out of the heroine, the cocaine, the xanax, the ecstasy. I'll dive in, grab her by the collar, and swim to the surface and save my older and only sister. I love you Kaci, and I remember how you listened to this song as you fell deeper and deeper into this lake of addiction. I remember when you ran away, you showed me the song "Call Me" by this very same band. I've cried so many times, wondering where my sister is. These demons which hold you, I'll find them somehow. I'll find what lies beneath your front of thuggish aggression, I'll reach down into your soul and I will bring you out of your own prision. Someday. Somehow. I love you.

@kaylabrandon4705

It's what follows that's important; when he says "or so they say." Because, standing outside your virtue is not a good thing. Virtue, is having behavior showing high moral values; So, the fact that he follows that line up with, "or so they say" gives an impression that she hasn't experienced that, it's just what's been said. I just witnessed a wintergaurd performance using this song and it was amazing. That was what led me here originally. I could not explain how amazing it was when his voice suddenly appeared- everyone screamed out of shock and the play was outstanding. ❤

Grayson Nico I heard it too. I think it's the same concept as schrodinger's cat experiment. I didn't realize it was there until I read your comment, the same way schro's cat didn't exist until someone let it out of the box.

What is said in the begining and at the end has that mad hatter poetry, love it "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isnt and contrary wise, what it is it wouldnt be, and what it wouldnt be it would. You see?"

It isn't really that confusing, I thought it made perfect sense. It was basically a fancy and repetitive way of saying if she had her own world it would be opposite to this one

You know this reminds me of something I did while locked up in the first psych hospital. I decided that I wanted to understand the difficulties blind people face. So, to pass the time well, I forced myself to make my way around without using my vision for a few days. Very vulnerable feeling it was. Having said that, I miss you Janice Kelley!

I think this song is about drug addiction “No such thing as time and every creature lends themselves to change your state of mind” sounds like hallucinations to me “Drank the wine and took the pill” self explanatory “Has locked herself in limbo to se how it truly feels” overdose induced coma “No one can ever hurt you or so they say” promises from your dealer “The curiosity” that gets you to start “Kill the soul but leave the pain” addiction and withdrawals “We se she’s thankfully returned” being revived before it was too late “But now off with her head I fear is everyone’s concern” the fear of her friends and family that she may die “There’s no real ending it’s only the beginning” self explanatory “This kingdom good riddance Her freedom and innocence” her dependence on the drug and lack of freedom or innocence as a result “Eat me drink me” what drugs are practically saying “Fill me to sink me” the high and withdrawals “Red knights white knights marching into the fight” red and white blood cells trying to keep pumping or doctors and emergency staff

To be honest Shinedown's singer Brent is a recovering drug and alcoholic so maybe when he wrote the song it came through as it does with alot of there songs. He still made it for the movie soundtrack.

I don't know the true meaning behind this music, but it somehow matches the way I interpretate Alices's books. I always correlact it to the habit I have (and know that many other people also have) to burry myself in fiction, sink in it till the story is all that exists. In those moments, I let all my morals and some of my convictions vanish, incorporating some of the story's morals while I'm at it. I always see Alice as a girl who's drowning at fiction, and the way she faces all the madness of Wonderland with certaing degree of calm is becouse she left behind some of the real world convictions. And I like this music cause I can see in it a bit of my odd interpratation of the story
