That section from 0:23 to 0:46 is absolutely beautiful, and I cannot stop immersing myself in it. The visual of the shining bird flying free through a starry night sky, only to be chased by the shadowy bindings of a cage, is just phenomenal. And the melodic voice that accompanies it's flight, letting us feel the joy of freedom in her high notes, but also alluding to the struggle against the cage with the way her voice sometimes drops. It's one of the most beautiful combinations of sound and visuals I've seen in any opening or ending. And it's immense meaning and majesty is only compounded by the context of the previous endings, in which we always see a bird flying. The difference here is that this bird is shining bright and golden, flying in a starry sky. It's like it's finally managed to break free from the despair of the previous endings. And finally there's the way it represents Eren. MANGA SPOILERS BELOW SERIOUSLY IT'S SPOILS THE END OF THE SHOW. DONT DO THAT TO YOURSELF. Eren has always been symbolized by a bird. At least, his desire for freedom has been symbolized as a bird flying in a sunny sky. Whenever we saw a bird fly in the past, it would always be in a bright sunny sky, showing how pure Erens dream was. And then Eren finally makes it beyond the walls, and eradicates the titans on Paradis. Only to now have the rest of mankind as an enemy, encaging him once again. And even more than that, Eren see's the future. He see's exactly what he is going to do, and he learns there is nothing he can do to change it. The whole story has been about gaining freedom, then Eren finds out he is essentially enslaved to a destiny his future self forced upon him. It is simultaneously his choice and not his choice. He isn't truly free, because he possess the Attack titan which can see the future. Thats the irony of the story. Eren seeks freedom more than anyone else, but discovers that he is ultimately caged by greater bonds than anyone else. So we get this bird again, but instead of a sunny blue sky, it flies alone at night. Because Eren is alone too. He is still pursuing the freedom of his friends, even though he will never have his. And ultimately, the black tendrils of the cage (which I wish there were nine of) catch up to him and encage him. He flew, but he couldn't get away.

It shows how beautiful but also tragic the dark world of Aot can be. This ending describes the world what could be for Eren. @reinertoast2195

@@lionkingflo6355 Precisely. And It’s because of all he had to sacrifice and all he had to break away from + endure that he is the only one who sees this world. The first part with black and white colors and a dark back-plan represents how eren feels inside the walls. We see his scarf and the bloody knife he holds. He wore his scarf to the day he gave it to Mikasa. Also he holds a bloody knife which refers to the day he saved Mikasa from bangers. So it's the Eren before/or from the moment he saved Mikasa. Blood dropping to white flower means he can give up on his morals for freedom or he can ignore some things. As you can see, he always looks forward, not down. That means he could ignore flowers he steps on. Then his scarf turns into a bird and the bird starts to fly up to the sky. Yet, cage catchs it up. The cage is the wall and the bird is Eren himself. The walls always stole his freedom, this is what he thinks. For that, he is obsessed with the walls. In the next scene the cage disappears. That represents walls being broken down. As he turns around, you can see the wall ruins. The child Eren appears to be happy to see it. Then we jump to the present Eren. That means his goal originates from his childhood desire (and remember he said "from the day i was born, i was who i am"). He steps on colorful flowers and keeps looking forward. He ignores flowers again. Yet, the child Eren seems to be happy to see flowers. So, why present Eren steps on it? Because he sacrifices the beauty/world/humans for freedom. Once he achieves freedom, he vanishes. edit: the reason adult Eren stepping on the flowers that the child Eren adored might be because of their perspective. Child Eren always wanted see outside world, he was focused on beauty and mistery of it. In contrary, adult Eren focused on ugly face of it and his goal to start rumbling. Outside world still was beatiful but he sacrificed it

This ending is apt! Eren only wanted to feel free! He was willing to do anything. He was a person who could not live in peace. He gets bored very easily. He states that himself, wishing for something to happen. Something Black and white. In his Freedom, he was always alone. So the ending where you only have nature here is apt. It represents Eren's freedom. He is a child who could never grow up. Eren is not a good guy, He is an interesting unique antagonist.
