Are you having difficulty producing a rich and full tone with your shinobue flute? Does your shinobue suddenly stop making any sound at all sometimes? And finally, did you know that how you hold your shinobue flute can make or break your tone? I am here to share with you the secret of how to hold a shinobue for a beautiful tone, which my excellent shinobue teacher, Mr. Bunta Satoh, has taught me, that I know you will find very helpful!
I was shocked when he showed me this. In fact, I thought he was a bit crazy... Well, he is a bit crazy (in a perfect way!!), but this method really works!! I was also shocked how the way you hold your shinobue affects the tone so much!! - especially when you are playing a long flute like 3 bon joshi. Simply put, I could NOT play my 3 bon joshi until I changed how to hold my shinobue to the way I showed in this video. Learning how to hold a shinobue is fundamental, and doing it this way is straightforward, but I don't think many people know this. Please comment if this method helped you and if you still have a problem producing a rich tone!
What I have shared in this video is something that worked for me personally, which I hope will also help you. But everyone's bodies are unique, every teacher has their own method, and each shinobue is unique as well, so if what I have shared here does not help you, please just disregard it. Take what works for you and leave the rest! :D
