It was the MS Windoc, and miraculously, apparently no one was injured. "The master quickly stopped the engines and ordered an evacuation of the wheelhouse. The master and third officer left the wheelhouse by the starboard navigation bridge wing. As they proceeded down the external bridge access ladder, the span of the bridge struck the vessel in way of the wheelhouse front windows, subsequently destroying the vessel’s wheelhouse and funnel. The helmsman remained at his station in the wheelhouse and lay down on the deck as the bridge span passed overhead. He freed himself from the debris and descended by the deckhouse stairwell alive." "On 11 August 2001, while traveling through the Welland Canal, Windoc was hit by Bridge 11 in Allanburg, Ontario. The accident caused minor damage to the vertical lift bridge, and destroyed the ship's wheelhouse and funnel. The vessel caught fire, and was later declared a constructive total loss, but there were no reported injuries, no damage to the $6-$8 million cargo, and no pollution to the waterway. The Marine Investigation Report concluded "it is likely that the [vertical lift bridge] operator's performance was impaired while the bridge span was lowered onto the Windoc."

Why would you scrap these perfectly good ships? I believe that recycling is always a good thing but it takes more to scrap a ship just to use that material to build a new one. Just remove the old engine and install a modern more efficient one. I mean if the hull is good I don't see the point in scraping it.
@HALLish-bl3bm
9 жыл бұрын
They have set lives, dictated by the degradation of the hull and keel. You can't tell on the exterior, other than rust. If you could see the holes that they are at risk of, you wouldn't see the ship, it would been on the bottom of the ocean. These are big, ruthless cooperations. They have calculated when the scrap value + cost of a new ship is more than the repair cost.
@lalaithan

Patrick Ellis Metal ships consist of the same elements as wooden vessels - keel, ribs, beams, etc. And metal constructions also do age.

Disliked, click bait. 90% are intentional beaching at ships dismantling yards. 2 crashes. One wasn't even filmed during the the crash. Click bait! But you still get the views and the money so you still win, but no sub from me!

Vojta Kaleta I actually work on the boat that was in the background. It's called the Admiral Tilp and it's based in Alexandria Virginia under the Potomac Riverboat company fleet. I was watching this compilation out of boredom and I saw that clip with my boat in the background and my jaw dropped lol

Jielyn Sabarez That was an intentional beaching, like it’s been stared several times. Most of these are intentional. They do this so that retired ships can be scrapped. So although it wasn’t technically a crash, this isn’t the reason.

It’s fake. The cgi is actually pretty bad, you can see the ship wobble like jelly and shift around if you look closely.

The boat in the background at 2:44 is one that I work on! It's the Admiral Tilp that is part of the Potomac Riverboat company fleet in Alexandria Virginia.
