And when Shirley ran for Pres. my Pops said "she knows she won't win, but she's blazing a trail so other blacks will have a path to follow to the White House"...lo and behold, Jesse came thru...Sharpton came thru..Barack came thru...and now the black female VP, Mrs Chisholm imagined, is on her way to the WH. Blessings are due to an intelligent, cleaver lady who was ahead of her time! She inspired not only AF-Am women, but women in general. Considering her era, who could imagine such a bold and daring act. . .Running for President as a Black female was like God opening up the windows of heaven and pouring us out a blessing to behold! Again, consider the era! Like those before her who put their necks on the chopping block, it was unheard of!

Heard her speak at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Atlanta in 1981. She was an electric speaker. Extremely charismatic.

My mother had me to do an essay on The great Shirley Chisholm in 1973. During a time when the Public School system only force-fed MLK on "Black History" month. As a result my children were never allowed (by me) to do essays on MLK. They asked me why. I replied " your teacher gonna get, at least 20 MLK essays from the other students. We gonna teach your teacher that the "so-called" "Black" community has more to offer......much more.

Growing up my Mom made sure we knew about Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. Mom later became the Whip of the State House in MO.

Awesome woman, Shirley Chisholm predicted there would be a VP woman first before a woman president in office. She was tough and she didn't back down to those systemic racism.. Love her sense of humor.

I was very young when Ms. Chisholm was campaigning. I remember, though, my grandmother thought very highly of her. Now I see why! Such a wonderful, remarkable woman!!!
