Not only my fav Smith's song.I believe this to be the best song ever written of the band electric guitar drums singer era from 1955-2000.

The most beautiful song delivered by The Smiths. It's why Meat Is Murder pips The Queen Is Dead. Matt, just so you know. Manchester is known for it's high rainfall. The water at the end is Manchester rain. It's very relevant to the song but you have to be a Manc to get it. Manchester rain is unique in how it affects the psyche of the city and how it's reflected in the arts.

It's in my top five of the Smiths. Beautiful song! And complementing, it was the first song I heard from the Smiths here in Brazil. I think it was in 1985, on the radio. It was a shock. Completely different from anything played on the radio. It was love at first listen.

1:39 🤣 I feel you, man. I really do. The man has a way with his voice and lyrics. This is perhaps one of my top Smiths tracks. One day I was driving home listening to this, and Florida is weird, and as soon I turned down a road it started raining right as the rain part of the song started. It was magical 😫

This song takes me straight back to Autumn1985 when I fell in love for the first time. I had to keep it a secret and could only wonder if there was any chance that he might reciprocate or run screaming (or worse beat me up). This song took on such a special meaning. And at the time it did feel like gasping, dying and a last stand of all I was! Spoilers - it had a happy ending and we are still good friends to this day (he's now married to a woman). So it's a special song for me, and I'm sure, many, many other people. Morrissey's lyrics spoke to the outsiders, the people who felt they didn't belong, the lonely.

I love reading that, Mark, both for the musical connection and personal anecdote. Thanks for sharing, and I'm really happy to hear you remain good friends with him years later. Really sweet story.

@@mattsnider2667 Thanks Matt. Music and memory are so intertwined (for me anyway) and certain songs are like time machines - you hear it and you're back there and images are flashing and the emotions bubble up.

And this is why even with all of Morrissey's shit, I absolutely adore The Smiths. Their music spoke to and for so many and that is something that's invaluable.

@@ijustneedmyself Ha, I don't know many details myself, but I have heard from a few other friends of the channel that he's said some ugly things in recent times. Sad to hear, but you're right---this music is still masterful.

Aah, just such a lovely song about wondering if they even notice you. I remember my first listen and loving how crystal clear the production was, even down to the Manchester rain towards the end.

I didn’t hear if The Smiths until 1987, so it reminds me when I was in high school ‘87.

loved it, it's almost like listening again for the first time with you. Do you think you'd be able to listen to some solo Morrissey? His live performances are very very entertaining and I think he has some great songs that you might enjoy.

Hey there! Yes, that is the plan (to listen to solo Morrissey), though I need to find out if any of the people helping the channel can assist in that regard.

Haha, there's a few in the shot! The big one is from Live in a Dive, the one below is from Crisis Point, and then old-school posters of The Day the Country Died and EP-LP are up on the side-wall. Plus Internal Riot and the other CD booklets on the wall. Basically, they've been one of my fave bands since I first discovered them as a teen in the '90s. Great shout!
