Shock Showdown is a series I created to find the best shock for my mountain bike! In this series, I will be taking you through the adjustment process of each shock, dialing it in, and testing it on my local trail while sharing my thoughts and impressions. Once we have an overview of each shock, it’s time for the timed shootout. Shocks will be shuffled randomly, then they will compete in a shootout at a bike park to see which shock gets the best time, offers the best value, and delivers the most fun!
Today, in episode 5, we are checking out the Ohlins TTX2 Air shock in its most recent iteration. This shock boasts high and low-speed compression adjustment as well as rebound adjustment. It’s straightforward to dial in using my Shockwiz device. The Ohlins TTX2 Air is definitely a great shock, but this is just episode five; there are plenty more to go!
The Ohlins TTX2 Air is designed for next-level performance in aggressive trail and enduro riding. Mounted out back, it offers superb control and comfort. Let’s dive into some of its key features and benefits:
The Öhlins TTX2 Air shock incorporates twin-tube technology, which separates the compression and rebound circuits. This innovative design provides more consistent and controlled damping performance, ensuring that your bike reacts precisely to the terrain. This means you get maximum control over your ride, whether you’re flying down a technical descent or powering through a rocky section.
One of the standout features of the TTX2 Air is its adjustable compression and rebound settings. With independent high-speed and low-speed compression adjustments, as well as rebound adjustment, you can fine-tune your suspension setup to match your riding style and the specific terrain you’re tackling. This level of customization ensures that you always have the right setup for the conditions, whether you’re hitting smooth trails or rough, technical tracks.
The air spring design of the TTX2 Air is another highlight. This advanced system provides a linear spring curve, which means smooth and predictable suspension behavior across different types of terrain. The result is a more comfortable ride with improved traction and control, allowing you to tackle trails with confidence.
Weight is always a consideration for serious riders, and the Öhlins TTX2 Air doesn’t disappoint. It’s constructed from lightweight materials, making it ideal for both trail and enduro bikes without compromising on strength or durability. You get the performance benefits of a robust shock while keeping your bike nimble and responsive.
The high-flow piston design is another key feature of the TTX2 Air. This design improves oil flow through the damper, resulting in better control and more consistent damping performance. Whether you’re hitting small bumps or taking big hits, the high-flow piston ensures that your shock performs reliably and predictably.
Adjusting the air pressure on the TTX2 Air is a breeze. You can easily tweak the air spring pressure using a standard shock pump, allowing for quick setup and tuning based on your rider preference and trail conditions. This makes it easy to dial in your shock for optimal performance, no matter where you’re riding.
Another great feature is the hydraulic bottom-out control. This provides additional damping at the end of the stroke to prevent harsh bottoming out. Even when you’re taking big hits, this feature ensures a smooth and controlled ride, protecting both you and your bike from unnecessary stress.
The compact design of the TTX2 Air means it can fit a wide range of bike frames and geometries, including those with limited space for suspension components. This versatility makes it a great choice for riders with different bike setups, ensuring you can benefit from its performance no matter what you ride.
Öhlins has also equipped the TTX2 Air with high-quality seals and bushings. These components reduce friction and improve small bump sensitivity, enhancing overall ride comfort and performance. This attention to detail ensures that every ride is smooth and enjoyable, even on rough trails.
Finally, the TTX2 Air offers various custom tuning options. This allows you to match the shock to specific bike models and rider preferences, ensuring a tailored suspension experience. Whether you’re a trail rider or an enduro enthusiast, you can customize the TTX2 Air to suit your unique needs, getting the most out of your bike and your rides.
The Öhlins TTX2 Air is a top contender in the world of mountain bike shocks, delivering exceptional performance and adjustability. Stay tuned as we continue to test and compare more shocks in the Shock Showdown series. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to stay updated with the latest episodes!
