I think there are a lot of die hard ACDC fans who dont really have a wide knowledge of other bands and players. They like them because you can always count on ACDC to make an ACDC kioe album. Malcolm is cool but theres so many better out there.

The way he attacks those strings is unbeliavable. You can feel him destroying them, for moments sounds like if it was going to explode. This is a fantastiv lesson for any aspiring guitar player.

Mal used extra heavy picks. I saw an interview with Angus where he said that the floor around Mal would be littered with pieces of all of the picks that he would shred during a show.

I think he is unquestionably the best for one simple reason, and that's the fact that the bands riffs and overall tone is so instantly recognizable, and stayed the same all through the decades. Mal is the reason when an AC/DC song starts playing, you instantly know who it is.

Guitarist is not a rhythm section component. It's bass and drums, so that duo would be Neil Peart and Geddy Lee. Mal was the greatest rhythm guitarist, that part is true.

Fascinating to hear thinking this is played live, not built up in the studio. How Malcolm pushes ahead then steps back, going from the 5ths power chords to adding in the higher 3rds later then backing off again, muting, going full open, all while interacting with each bandmate in the song, there’s so much going on here. Just amazing.

@@chrisrobinson8163 I wouldn't say worst, it's different. I had always the feeling there's just a little too much gain, but it's still great. I don't like the mix of the Live album tho, the DVD from Donigton sounds much better

During the part that starts at 3:13, seems like he follows Angus rather than keeping time with Slade. There are other times in these isolated Malcolm clips where that seems to be the case. It would be great to hear isolated tracks where Rudd is present. Would probably click with a lot of people as to why Phil is the band’s real groove.

All my life I heard people say Great lead players are dime a dozen , but the find one that is a True Rhythm Guitarist --that is amazing!!!.. a great Rhythm Guitarist can do much embellishing and do a different type of lead all in Rhythm chords !!

It's well known by now, but I'm still fascinated every time I hear how clean his tone is. The first assumption would be this would be heavily distorted, but presumably it's basically the amp really cranked up, no other effects. Shows how much a good player can get out of not so much sophisticated gear.

Malcolm and this vid are so inspiring. I have been playing similar to Mal for years and not realizing it. I play 11's and attack the strings with percussive strumming. He plays 12s and is all about the rhythm and tone.

Malcom was so heavy with his attack yet it was also so precise at the same time. Just look at his guitar, it looks pristine. I feel like if I was playing that hard I’d leave pick scratches on the finish from where I’m hitting the body.

I think this is the only tour he played through Mesa boogie equipment. You can see the cabs behind him. I read somewhere he was playing through Mesa mark 3 heads. He's known for playing through old Marshall super bass and lead heads. I noticed from the ballbreaker tour forward he has a cleaner sound.

@@Diesel0807 I know because the Cabs behind Malcolm say Messa Boggie and I saw an interview with a former Rodie who worked with AC/DC and confrimed that on the 91 tour they used Messa Cabs both Angus and Malcolm but the Heads were still Marshall

Because it highlights ever nuance and most aren’t as good as Malcolm. It’s a tough sound to play as all your mistakes will be right there. Nowhere to hide.
