guys for those of u who are struggling to get this mod to work on your miata (like i was) i found out that 90-93 miatas that have/had cruise control will not let the megasquirt launch control function work properly. all i had to do to get this setup to work on my miata was simply unplug the cruise control switch from the clutch pedal. for whatever reason when that switch is plugged in it interferes with the signal from the starter switch and the launch control would always stay on?? anyways i found this solution to work for me and my car hope this helps! i also have a short clip of the lc on my channel!

+TheCarPassionChannel as far as flat-foot shifting goes, if the limiter is interfering with rev-matched downshifting, you could put a second switch under the gas pedal and put it in series with the clutch switch. you can still rev out freely and rev match when necessary, but you still get flat-foot shifting benefits.

There are a couple ways you could do this, I used to have a physical switch that would activate/deactivate it so if I was canyon running or AX etc, I could just turn it off. Now that you mention it, I think you could put such a switch somewhere on the brake pedal arm so it would deactivate under braking only, allowing free revs for downshifts. Good idea!

+TheCarPassionChannel 10:24 Why did you lift your throttle foot the first shift, but not the second shift (flat-footed)? If the feet shifting clip and the tail end clip were filmed at the same time, then that would mean that the backfire was caused by the opened BOV on the first shift. Also, I get that the engine experiences spark cut during flat foot shift but does it also cut fuel as well? I'm assuming that it does or else you'd get backfires.
@TheCarPassionChannel
8 жыл бұрын
Eddie Trevizo I lifted partially on the first shift just by habbit, lol. Actually the GoPro runs were filmed completely separate from all of the in-car runs. If you run spark cut only, you might still get through a flatshift without any backfire if the revs never drop low enough to hit the secondary limiter.

You didn't get it quite right. Launch control builds boost on full throttle when you're standing still. antilag builds boost when the car is rolling and the throttle plate is fully closed and it needs an extra air supply to get air for the combustion in the exhaust manifold when you shut the throttle plate. I am building antilag on my Sierra Cosworth and I'm going to use a modified idle control valve to supply the extra air. I allready have the anti lag wired and enabled in the ECU but it doesn't work yet because it doesn't get enough air through the stock ICV.
@TheCarPassionChannel

+cossiedrifter This style of launch control will not build boost with the car standing still.

+TheCarPassionChannel That's probably why it's called 2-step. Mostly just a second rev limiter. Allmost no one uses that in Sweden. It's boost building launch control or nothing. I have launch control on my Cosworth. It shoots flames and builds boost. But no antilag yet.

Aww yeah now I can actually join the stream, so excited! Now I have a question, do non cruise control cars have the cruise control switch, because that could be why my LC/FS doesn't work.. It doesn't even work with the car in neutral. Also, do you need a vTPS for it to work? I'm running the car with no TPS at the moment because of MegaSquirt and not being able to find a BMW one yet, but it would be a reason for me to upgrade the TPS (which I'm gonna do anyway but still)

+JaguarJay Crap, totally forgot to mention that you need a vtps. That's most likely the reason yours does not work.

+TheCarPassionChannel Fair enough, guess who's ordering one really soon :P Thanks for the ultra fast reply, I love these longer how-to videos!

JaguarJay Excellent man, I try not to let it get too boring, and keep a wide variety of installs/etc coming.

Okay so I finally got a TPS installed and my launch control works.. in neutral :\ Problem is, since I have a euro spec MX5, I don't seem to have the starter interlock switch "clutch switch" which is depressed when the clutch is fully depressed. I only have the clutch switch on top that's depressed when the clutch is fully engaged. So I can't wire the neutral switch to the clutch switch. It's probably because in Europe we are more used to driving manuals so it's not needed to have the starter interlock switch or something like that... It sucks but I guess I'm gonna use a reed switch and haggard something up sometime :P

Any tips on setting this up on the 97? I have mine set to the the Launch input in tunerstudio and i got nothing. Did you have to do any wiring for the existing clutch switch? ps im running a MSPNP2

question? on the flat foot shifting getting in the way of heal/toe, could you add a interrupter type switch to the break pedal so whenever you're on the brake it disables the flat shift causing you to heal/toe in a normal fashion then when your back on the gas you have your flat shifting again?. Just a thought so you wouldnt have to physically do anything.

Yes. The only issue with that is if you're just rev-matching without braking, it will still interfere. (I do that when exiting a highway or if traffic starts to slow down, etc)

You could also have a button and install it on your shifter or something similar to his toggle switch to where you could have it on all the time, but it will disable it if you press a button on your shifter as you are doing a maneuver.

My megasquirt is arriving this week so this video could not have come at a better time! Thanks buddy, enjoying your videos very much. Also quick question, would it be detrimental if my ecu receives a permanent clutch-out signal? What I mean is, when you intercept the signal to trick the ecu, does it affect anything else? fuel/spark tables, cruise etc. etc.

+iXiiN I'm not sure what you mean by a permanent clutch-out signal?

+TheCarPassionChannel Trying to word this is harder than it should be haha. When you turn your switch off so that Launch/FS no longer activates, this is because the ecu is tricked into thinking the clutch is 'out' or not depressed, so the entire time you drive with that switch off, the ecu believes the clutch is not being pressed, even if it is. Did that make more sense?

iXiiN You're asking if that affects anything? No it does not. At least not on my setup.

Okay cool that's exactly what I wanted to know, thanks. I wassn't sure what the ecu really uses the clutch switch for apart from launch/FS but I guess nothing is the answer haha.

So one of my wires from my clutch switch goes to the ms2 clutch switch Lin or the launch control pin. I have the 26 pin ms2 pnp. I thought one wire from clutch switch goes to ground. And the other one just goes into the ms2.. I just don't know if it goes to the clutch switch pin or launch control pin

Want to get ecu and minor mods before turboing and tune car up/do maintainence before I dump money into the turbo set up, would I still be able to make noises and flames without turbo? Lol and have 2 step/launch controll on a switch. Sorry for my basic ass question 😅

I got it working on my 97 - great fun :) - the clutch switch is independent. I want to set it up on my friends 95 miata, is it the same setup as yours ? short the clutch switch and wire the neutral switch as the input on MS ? Why can't just short the natural switch and use the clutch switch as your input ? Thanks !

I have no idea, seems like each year has a different problem with the launch control circuit.
