Same thoughts. I thought it would sound like movies, too. I thought about Predator 2, the feds being hush-up and the local police officer (Danny Glover as Lieutenant Mike Harrigan) still wants to investigate.

I wonder if the local Sheriffs and DAs are, or are thinking about, doing their own investigation, or if they've been told to stay out of it?

The Sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement officer in every county in the country. He can’t be told to stay out of it. That would be his choice.

@@SeekingTheTruth1 If you seriously think a county sheriff can trump an FBI SAC especially pertaining to federal property then I have beachfront property for sale in Cobb county.

@@jacobsuckit4214 you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. The county Sheriff is an elected official. He/she is the highest ranking law enforcement officer in any county. The FBI don’t have any authority over him because they can’t enforce state laws. And laws are regulated by the state. If they’re on a public street that isn’t private property. I didn’t say anything about private or federal buildings.

Yes, local authorities can and often do investigate this if they want to under local statutes if the Federal property has allowed the local agencies to have joint jurisdiction on the property. I think, but am not sure, that a Federal Building allows this, and if the sidewalk or street outside the facility falls into this category or is under only local jurisdiction depends on the location. If the local authorities do have jurisdiction a lot of depends if the office was in scope ie. if the officers use of deadly force was justified and within the scope of their duties. If the officer is ruled by the Department of Justice to be in Scope, the Federal Government will defend the officer if the local authorities investigate and bring charges. If the officer is found to be out of scope he/she are on their own and will have pay for their own defense, and could face disciplinary action by the Federal Agency and Federal Authorities as well. On some Federal land the local authorities have no authority, there all crimes fall only under Federally jurisdiction.
