In this video I will be spraying a test door with the Sherwin-Williams Sherwood Kem Aqua Plus water reducible clear finish with a Kremlin 10:14 Airmix system.
I originally sprayed this finish back in 2011 with a gravity feed HVLP spray gun and have been getting quite a few questions on it as far as application, my opinion of the finish, solids content, and cost. So I decided to try it again with my preferred application with a Kremlin 10:14 Airmix air assisted airless set up. The concern was that an air assisted airless system could potentially introduce micro bubbles causing the finish to have a hazy look, so I wanted to see it for myself if it was truly the case. Fortunately, I didn't have any of the problems I read about on some of the woodworking forums about the claimed micro bubbles and milky look.
My overall thought of the Kem Aqua Plus is this: if you have patients, can control your shop environment to maintain 60+ degree F, and are willing to put a little extra effort in pre sanding, its a coating worth looking into. If I had to go to waterborne, i would be ready.
