I remember when I first began shopping at Thrift stores, my husband was upset with me because we both had good jobs. I had a very nice wardrobe, compliments of Thrift stores. I have never been a person who cared about "Labels", buying expensive clothing. I was the one always at a clearance rack in clothing stores. When I finally got him to come with me, he was hooked. When you donated to the Salvation Army, they would give you a coupon, spend $25.00 get $10.00 off. He got hoodies, nice shirts, both long and short sleeve, shorts, jackets, etc. Dan, the door to the white cabinet is sitting on top.

I found a nice picture at a thrift store here, had expensive matting, glass and framing worth way more than the $20 I paid. Got it home, realized it was not a print but original signed painting. There was a tag on the back from a high end gallery in Washington DC. Researched the artist online, the prints were going for hundreds of dollars so an original was a great find.

Great trip today. If I were starting out today, yes, I would furnish my home from thrift stores. As it is, since I have retired, I have not been to any malls. I enjoy the thrift stores more. I find everything that I need for my home and to clothe myself at thrift stores. I wish that I had realized how great they were earlier in my life. My problem is that I often buy too much at thrift stores because the price is so “good”. TY for taking us there, Danno!

I will still occasionally visit Sal Army or Goodwill but they have both become increasingly expensive, especially considering the merchandise is donated to them! I've even seen items from the Dollar stores that are priced twice as much or more. Kinda nervy. 😕 Also, since Internet selling has become big business, I've noticed the inventory now leans towards cheap and junkier merchandise. Very few items worth much of anything. I recently read somewhere that the managers sift through incoming donations and keep items for themselves or hold back to sell on the websites. 😮💨

We have new fabric, if it suits your needs, for making charity quilts or bibs for nursing homes. Saves driving 2 hrs to Hobby Lobby or Joannes. Flat sheets make great backs for quilts. But has gotten rather expensive on some items. Shoes I never look at, no one has size 5 except Amazon. I order sew on fancy embroidery flowers and put them down 1 leg of my jeans. Fancy them up without being gaudy ugly. Salvation Army closed during the C cough. Turned into a Dialysis business. Don't forget Animal Shelters if looking for a pet. Just be sure they have a good reputation, and give shots, and spay/neuter and chip.

My mind has a thing about wanting to organize similar items together, so disorganized shelves make me really uncomfortable. I had come across a platter with a beautiful rose in the center sitting in a home decor section. Later on, I was passing a section with dish sets and saw the same pattern as the platter, so I got the platter and put it with the matching dishes. I also came across some Red Hat Society items in different areas and I grouped them together on one shelf. It's not easy being me.

Lots of shoes people wear once or twice. The special occasion shoes. They sit in closets for a while because women are usually particularly what goes with what. A big no no are slippers. Careful with sport shoes, but young people "don't like" a lot of shoes. If shoes in general look uncomfortable, they probably are. More expensive shoes are better made. Better balance, better materials, more comfortable. Boots is hit or miss. Generally, there are very few shoes you can't wash, and most of those can be washed in a washing machine. Generally, if you're not planning on getting walking shoes that you're going to wear every day, or slippers ( I consider them underclothes), lots of shoes are usually barely worn, so simply no time to mold them. Also, can always add your own insoles.

In small print on the inside of the bracelet it said K14 instead of 14K so people probably passed it up but when the owner of the jewelry store tested it with his machine, it was indeed 14K. My other best deal of my life was 20 years ago at a rummage sale. It was the last day of the sale and I spotted a small silver serving tray. She wanted to get rid of it so she let me have it for $1.
