Fitted a cheap kit on two of my Golfs, just the cast part though, set it to shortest setting and it feels like that's how it should have been from factory.

Yeah Andrew, I thought the same. When comparing how far the throw of the gear stick used to be, it feels so much better! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment too , cheers 👍🏻

At the base of the gear lever or over the old rubber bushes attached to the short shifter? I've ordered new spring bushes to attach to the short shifter, as my ones are knackered 🙈

Excellent how-to, thank you 👍👍 But the other metal bracket that replaces the black plastic one... is that necessary if the plastic one seems ok? Seems to be confusion online about what that smaller bracket does so on yours do you know if it helped reduce the throw at all? It's an extra £50 so I'd rather spend that on new bushings unless you think it's definitely worth the extra. Cheers✌️

Hey mate, thank you for commenting and glad u found the vid useful. It's always cringey when I watch back my older vids 😅🙈 Anyway I had a quick look to double check the plastic arm your talking about. I'm 99% sure that one controls the side to side movement of the gearstick, so it's not a necessity to replace. You can definitely run the setup with just shortening the front to back movement. And yes it's certainly expensive for just a small amount of reduced movement. Hope that helps 😊👍🏻

@@NorthCoastWorkshop It is side to side but except for neutral I can't see that making much difference. Think I'll give it a miss and just do the main part, cheers.

Currently I have an issue. This retaining clip @ 4:36, broke at mine (found out 5min ago). The pin went out of place and I could not change gear anymore.... Now I need one of these Metal retaining clips. I wonder where I can get these. I'm not getting a short shifter, just looked at the video to have some help to find my issue... This video was super helpful. But maybe you can help me to find the right retaining clip? ❤

I can't find the plastic bushing individually I'm afraid. Best bet is Autodoc, pop in your car's details and see what they offer in the ' transmission ' section. As for the clips, I found the part number I think online, but they are expensive. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132907260788?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=yyqjsshvQx-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=vCDiAaHLTtq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY You may be better off just getting replaced parts from Autodoc that have the clips/bushes included as the whole assemblies aren't much more than the individual bits. Hope that helps 👍🏻

@@NorthCoastWorkshop Do you think that plastic bushing is standard and required? Could just use only a retaining clip. Found one on internet just as you sent me for €3.50. (I live in the Netherlands)

Where did you get tour sound proofing from under the bonnet ? Also how did you fit it. Mine has sagged and gone mouldy. I removed it but im looking to replace it. Thank you
@NorthCoastWorkshop
2 жыл бұрын
Mine is still the original soundproofing from seat. I took it off a few years ago to wash it and dry it out to remove the mould, but only once I had sealed the holes from the plastic trim fitted to the bonnet (that's how it gets wet and mouldy) You could try the same with urs, with a damp cloth and then leave it flat, drying out in the sun for a day. Otherwise a seat dealership will be the place to try and source a new one 👍🏻
