My first airline job was flying the SD3-30/60s. Great memories.

I flew in several of these "Flying Winnebago's" back in the 1980's. My career took me to many small towns across the eastern half of America. And American Airlines often used the Shorts 360 into small airports with short runways. One flight in particular stands out in my mind. I flew Eastern Airlines from Pittsburgh to Chicago on a Sunday afternoon in 1986. I was headed to Quincey, IL but the route took me through Springfield & Peoria on a roundabout way. It was about 9:30pm & I had dosed off when the solo flight attendant awoke me & asked me to get up & sit on the other side of the plane as requested by the pilot. I was 6' & weighed 180 lbs at the time. I was 1 of only 3 passengers on that plane that evening, including the solo flight attendant. And tell me that my weight kept the plane out of balance? I never heard that before nor ever again. The 360's always seemed to fly low & slow, but they did have a very impressive rate of climb. Not my favorite commuter plane, but they did the job very well.

Beautifully-designed aircraft with roomy interior and excellent lay-out. It was a work horse during it's time and served many airlines efficiently!!

Hey, 378 Mighty Quick! Got SIC time in that bird! The 360 was my first ride at Simmons Airlines. Unfortunately never got to upgrade on it as the fleet was retired from our service 2 1/2 years after I started there. Aircraft was very reliable, and many good memories. It’s a joy to see these videos! Thanks for posting them!

Fond memories of flying in these and the S330's in the UK and USA. Noisy, but good views thanks to the lower altitude. We called them "Flying Portakabins" in the UK.

Lived in Orange County California in the late 1970s, early 80s. These would fly over the house commuting from LAX as they would enter the landing pattern for John Wayne Airport.

The Shorts 330 and 360 were called "the box the Metro came in" (Fairchild Swearingen Metro). I few in one - I think a couple times. Definitely a unique experience - an unpressurized box.

Remember Jersey European from Belfast to Blackpool via the Isle of Man in these. Terrifying when in a bit of wind turbulence.

I was a flight attendant on these horrible planes in the 80s and to this day, this was the ONLY plane i've ever gotten airsick on. More than once. They were awful, cheap, leaky, loud and embarrassing. I'd take our F27s or Saab 340s any day over these.
