I'm looking forward to receiving my first receiver in two days. This is a hobby I've I've always wanted to get into. I'm in NE China, so I'm excited to see what I can pick up.

Listening to your series for beginners. I started DX’ing in the early 1980s in Nova Scotia…as a teenager.. I had a couple old SW receivers…. it was exciting being able to bring in countries on the other side of the world….. Going to try this again in Fort Mac, Alberta. Thanks for the information

I really appreciate this program. I know some scattered details but not specifically for SW radio. Your presentation was really a good intro. I recall visiting a friend who was into the hobby decades ago and his wall covered with the QSL cards. I'll be watching the rest of the series

Been DXing since I was 10 . (Ca: 1971). After about 15 years, I’m getting back into DXing. A couple of new radios. These new hand held portable radios are really something! Got a Tecsun pl-390, ordered the SkywaveSSB, working on the Tecsun pl-660, And looking at the AR-1780 Digitech.

A relatve of mine who is also in this hobby for 50 years told me, that after the disappearing of the most SW Stations in western europe Romania filled the empty space and so Romanian stations are best recievable stations in Germany, where we have no SW broadcast anymore, but we will have one for sailors in the Northern Sea next time. Sadly they pulled down a lot of SW and LW transmitter masts in Germany. In my opinion SW is also a tool in wide area disasters, where all other lines of communications are broken down, even Internet...

Cheers from Gander Newfoundland Dude! recently just got a tescun 12 band receiver, 1 band am 1 band mw and 10 bands sw, and a tescun portable sw mw and lw reciever. love finding strange stations on mw, finding weird funny stuff on lw, and always for the past few weeks have been having number station hunting sessions with my friends. the portable one is i think 6 bands shortwave, and the large am mw and sw one is 10 bands shortwave, so each one of us grabs a receiver 2 people at each one, and we look for numbers stations. we found the cuban lady one time, we were getting chills down our spines, and listening to Brazilian soccer commentators go extremley nuts when someone scores makes us lose it with laughter. we were out in the woods one night, and we were listening to shortwave on the portable receiver, playing manhunt (i'm only 16 lol gotta make good times stay with you) and we were tuning into random stations, and as soon as we heard GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL we lost it, the neighbors telling us to shut up, lol so many emotions can have different affects on you with shortwave. mostly scared haha.

Thanks for sharing this. Your presentation inspired me to order a portable short wave radio. It should be here tomorrow. Woo-hoo! The internet seems so humdrum and prosaic. Short wave is mysterious (what will I find out there?) it has romance (finding broadcasts is an adventure) and is so outré (unconventional). Anyway thanks and I will watch more of your videos.

I have a portable shortwave radio that I used to use more than I have the past several years. I may get back into it more in the future and am interested in your KZitem channel. I was surprised to find there seem to be few websites that carry signals from foreign radio stations. Of course I found the BBC sites. So I guess I will have to listen to my shortwave radio if I am going to hear those foreign radio stations. Years ago I was WN8MWF when I had my beginners ham radio license but did not pursue that in college.

This is a pretty good introduction to Shortwave, maybe those shortwave stations could read listener mail over the air. Maybe they could have a call in show: "call Radio Romania Now and request your favorite Romanian song, who is you favorite Romanian!"

At 52:55 you say "I have my discomm(?)..." What is that? I tried searching and I just came up with Division Support Command light infantry and various other non-radio stuff. Sorry I am not familiar with all the jargon. Since you title it as "...for the beginner..." I am wishing when you say something like that you could give a brief explanation of what it is. Thank you. Also what do you mean when you say the six meter band was "open"?

Hey, I was wondering is it possible to arrange a two way communication with a friend overseas with shortwave radio equipment and how costly is such equipment ? please respond if possible. Thank you in advance
@jasonschuster
4 жыл бұрын
To transmit for send and receive on similar bands to shortwave you would need amateur radio licensing and the associated equipment. Licensing requirements vary by country- in the United States the type of communication you describe would likely require the second of three levels of licensing. The equipment needed varies alot depending upon the distance you wish for the signal to travel, as well as atmospheric conditions can limit your reach.
