The actual tutorial wasn't necessary. The music alone has set me on my path to shot putting glory.

When you first start your spin, you start with a slow, deliberate sweep with your right leg. The leg sweep should start out slow and a little farther out from your body. Before planting the right foot in the center of the ring, you should bring your foot closer to your body to tighten the circle that is your body spinning. It is at this point when you should speed up. TL;DR-speed up right before you plant your right foot in the center of the ring.

@xDASCOQx I hear you, but you are making it more complex that it is in reality. If a person with great strength does all 3, as you say, the shot will in fact go far. The problem -- which we probably both agree to -- is that the very strong thrower generally gets one of the three wrong -- usually arm speed is insufficient. ON THE OTHER HAND, the discus (my main event) is indeed so much more complex that simple formulas are just impossible.

@xDASCOQx Actually, the physics is pretty clear: distance is only a function of height of release, angle of release, and velocity at takeoff. So if you are throwing faster than your friend and you are the same speed, you must be throwing at a better angle and/or you are releasing the shot from a greater height.

Question: I learned how to spin from this video. my coach and another shot put thrower on my team (shes 3rd in the USA for shot put) said i have an excellent spin form. I have a little understanding about the speed of it (start off slow, then go fast). I just don't know when the speed changes from slow to fast (at which point in the technique). I am a sophmore in high school and i have recently PR'd with the spin @ 32ft 4in. Please help me with the transfer of speeds so i can improve my distance

@veronicaramirez5260

THIS is rotational shot put, it's neither good nor bad, just means your better at getting around the ring rather than doing the glide.

Will you Go to Heaven when you Die?(Here's a quick test) Have you ever lied, stolen, committed adultery(Jesus said if you even look with lust it's adultery) Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? Be honest. You know you will be guilty and end up in Hell. But God is not willing That Any perish. God loves us so much He sent Jesus Christ to suffer and die on the Cross and He rose from the dead. Today, Repent(Confess and Forsake your Sins) and trust in JESUS Christ then read the Bible and Obey it.
