Thank you for the video and for sharing some methods of decision making which can apply to any big decision. I recently became an Enrolled Agent. It is not an easy program, lots of rote learning, test prep, and memorization across the 3 exams. I would add to the discussion: Don't forget about considerations regarding timing (frequent) and volume (a lot) of Enrolled Agent continuing education requirements. There are many ways to incorporate tax planning such as partnering with other EAs, advisers, or CPAs.

I loved this video. One year ago I impulsively began my EA studies and this Tuesday I am taking the final Part 3 of the exam. On one hand, I completely underestimated how difficult the exam is, especially Part 2, for someone without an accounting background. I missed hundreds of hours family time. However, just the knowledge from Part 1 elevated my client meetings beyond my knowledge from the CFP. The knowledge from the EA program will give an advisor a huge advantage in the market place and the confidence to navigate tools such as Holistiplan seamlessly.

Depends on the time you put into it. There are phenomenal EAs and then there are EAs who are haven’t got a clue. If you want it just for the title you may find yourself in trouble by taking in a role your not ready to handle. If you want to dedicate the time to not just get the credentials but thoroughly learn the craft it would be good. But then there are opportunity costs, sometimes it’s better to partner with an experienced tax professional.

What about getting the FRC designation and then getting leads from that? I saw an ad for it on Instagram
