Very refreshing to see such open honesty from a professional sportsman. Thank you for this Uzzie. Definitely agree you should be in the test 11, to consistently average 40 these days is a rare thing, sure there may be some accurate criticisms of you at times but nobody is perfect, especially in cricket. Your second innings 100 against Pakistan in 2018 was one of the finest innings I’ve ever seen. You should be opening with Warner, you seem like the perfect foil for him. I understand spots in the ODI team are hard to come by but you should definitely be in the squad.

Hey Uz, it was great to hear your thoughts on this, I hope you and your family are well. I had a great time watching the Shield final this year in person, I've never seen AB field so packed for a Shield game. Very proud of our Queensland team and congratulations on the title (let's make it 2 in a row). I also think you should still be there in the XI. I've got a question, if I may. There's a belief in many cricket circles I run in that you would fit in well as a test opener. It's cropped up a few times on the tv broadcast of tests also. While you've spent most of your career batting at 3-4, your record opening the batting is also very good, granted this is from a smaller sample size. You of course opened the batting in the UAE against Pakistan in 2018 where you played one of your best innings in my opinion to save the first test. I watched almost all of the last two days live and when it wasn't on I was listening to it on ABC radio. For the India series that year though you were back at 3 and Harris debuted to open with Finch. Finchy is another player I feel who was probably discarded a bit unfairly and could've excelled if he batted in a place he'd be more used to. Being a middle order player for most of his career for Victoria, it was rather odd to see him opening. He did not look comfortable, and after watching the Test documentary it seemed that the coach and the selectors thought that it was the only position he could've played. Though, I can't get this idea out of my head that perhaps you would've suited opening the batting better, having Shaun Marsh bat at 3 and Finch at 4 or 5. Would've also helped group disperse the younger players among the older players. Say Travis Head played 4, Finch 5 and Marnus Labuschagne at 6? I love Finch and think he's a great batsman, I just think he was batting in a position where he wasn't comfortable. For the Ashes, it wasn't a great series for opening batsman. I thought despite the fact you hadn't made a huge score you looked like you were batting well and unfortunately copped some absolute peach deliveries taking the faintest of edges, and I was sad to see you dropped for the fourth test. I thought you would've been a better choice to open the batting with Davey. I know that was a long paragraph and you're probably wondering where my question is, well my question is, what are your thoughts on opening the batting for Australia? Did the selectors have this thought they wanted you to play 3 and not open, similar to how they wanted Finch to open, not bat middle order? Were you asked if you would like to open the batting between the start of the 2018 India series and the end of the Ashes? I can't help but feel you're still clearly good enough to be in the test XI and if I were a selector making a gut call, I'd have you as opener, and would've had you there for the fourth Ashes test onwards. Hope I get to see those sexy straight drives and pull shots of yours again soon in the test arena. Good luck in the Shield! (P.S. If you don't get selected please talk to someone to get you in the coms booth. Your top level bants is desperately needed in a stale commentary team.)

How I see your selection "and I'm a big fan" is that you are at the age and level where you know your game so well you pretty much now how to go out there and dig in and make consistent scores, you speak up and that's fine, pretty much a potential Australian captain since you've captained the AusA side a few times, you remind me of Mark Waugh, beautiful to watch when you're making runs but you also like Mark get out softly which would frustrate not just you but the selectors, your fitness has improved and look really fit, im hoping this season you go big and finally cement your spot in the Aussie side, team Australia needs the fittest consistent very experienced Usman out there as one of the top seniors of the ranks, go out there and get it, score big in State cricket (love watching state cricket) and just dominate every time you go out there and bat, good lucky and train hard

Is the question should he continue to coach Australia, or should he ever have coached Australia? If memory serves me correctly he was appointed after that ball tampering episode in South Africa to bring some integrity back into Australian cricket. If that is the case, then the question is - is he the right person for that job? There is that KZitem video showing him deliberately flicking the bails of the wicket at the end of an over and then appeailing for a hit wicket dismissal. Is that a sufficient demonstration of integrity?

Under JL, Australia won an away Ashes for the first time in 20 years, won T20 world cup and smashed England at home. The Australian cricket team is peaking and it has the best bowling attack that I've seen since McGrath and Warne retired. It's such a shame for him to go like this, the players shouldn't have any say in the matter. Telling players things they don't like is the job of a coach, he's not there to coddle them. I would have liked to see what Australia does under JL while touring Asian nations this year, this has been the most disappointing incident since the sandpaper.
