Lifelong learning is key. Today a new scenario happened with 3 yo bull terrier we adopted ~4 months ago: kid's friends came over. Lots of kid energy. Both pups went crazy bc they LOVE kids and also play off each others' energy. I had to crate them and the BT started barking to get out of the crate to play. A few hours later on the couch with just me, she barked again to play, something she had never done with me (or anyone) before today. New behavior from new stimuli can happen anytime. I was clearly not ok with barking at me (I just had to give a firm no once and the "parent look" when your kid, and apparently dog!, get that a line has been crossed) and she snuggled up to sleep against my leg the rest of the evening to be friends again.
