Matt and Patrick While your work is very commendable I would think that the 'preoccupation' with Pope's 'resignation' is overdone. The Church is there for us so that we are helped to become holy. All our thoughts words and deeds at all moments should be aimed towards that goal. Do you intend your 'love for the church and all that you do for the Church' with the Show to make you holier and holier? It should. My problem and why I reserved judgment about Pope Francis' statement "who am I to judge" is that **I** didn't know whether he was speaking about someone who was actively homosexual or truly chaste in practice, and contrary to the huge modern expectation due to instant social medias and the world wide WEB, I am just not interested in busying myself about the media details and reports of others' lives.... I was busy trying to live the life given to me, because sometimes *pursuing knowledge of evil* beyond the scope of my own personal control becomes way too much to handle (which some would consider egregiously selfish of me, to choose to live without total and complete knowledge of everything wrong in the world).

I too have concerns about the direction of the Vatican and Holy Father, but I think such discussions about the Pope resigning, etc. are out of bounds. In short, we need a smattering of faith.

I was reading the Gospel earlier this morning, today of all days before listening to this interview and skimming through the comments section. I encourage everyone, including the interviewer and interviewee, to review the Gospel account of Mark. I believe it was chapter 9 or 10. We need to humble ourselves before God, not divide from one another, and pray and fast for the Pope and others to be made fully able and fully free to speak? Sometimes our clamoring of "fight the good fight" amounts to nothing against a mute unclean spirit. Pride is also most easily concealed in Wrath, especially in this time when acting/reacting or speaking reactively in Anger, though the experience of anger itself not a sin, is confused for working toward Social Justice. It's so easy to become distracted from Christ and keeping our eyes on Him.

The resignation of Francis would not just be a good faith effort for the sake of the abused, but also for the church, as a sign that it has been poorly led. It would show that the laity (and Christ for that matter!) deserve to have a Church that is not completely opaque in its transparency and corrupt in its dealings. I look at it this way: if the church was a multinational corporation who had an industrial disaster, or produced a product that injured people, the public would call for the resignation of its CEO. Same with a politician. Why should the church be any different?

From someone who admires Pope Francis' approach to the Gospel, but also denounces what I see as a weakened clergy and tradition under his pontificate, here's my two cents: Pope Francis is an imperfect but talented leader we need today. Many may misunderstand and hate on Pope Francis, particularly in the West, and I understand. But in the uproars of social media, we forget that every pope is different, and every pope is heavily flawed. Each has their own spiritual talents that emphasize aspects of the Gospel. Francis emphasizes the Christ's love for the poor, the mercy of God, the unity of creation, and the power of the laity. That doesn't mean he denies upheld teachings of the Church. Read social media with a critical, well-rounded lens. Of course, the Pope Francis isn't the disciplined administrator or brilliant theologian we see in other Popes. And I condemn the Pachamama incident, even if I believe no idolatry was promoted. Yes, we know sexual abuse, need for liturgical reform, and corruption in the clergy are still rampant and the big negatives in his time. But again, the Church, while not perfect, is working on it. And I'm surprised people forget about all the bonkers stuff that happened under Benedict XVI and John Paul II. Critics also forget that Francis is a defender of Catholic sexual and moral teaching, and is against both consumerism and Marxist liberation theology. And his interreligious dialogue is the same thing St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI have been doing! I hope we can have a balanced view of what's going on, and let's cut out the name calling please. Cheers, let's pray for him and each other, God bless!

@Andrew Jacob I don't see everything he says as vague and ambiguous. Certainly the way the mainstream media reports on him would amplify that sense about his words. I think in part it has to do with the way the world culture has become, and the way we have become in it. Certainly we thirst for direction, Truth, we thirst for Jesus. But the global culture, it's become very absurdly/extremely individualistic despite the popular Neo Marxist motion (same thing really, all a collective of "many kingdoms of ones"), which can have a major impact on the way we read or hear things and try to interpret and apply those things to ourselves and our (or other's) circumstances. The voice/s of the world are as a contagion, yet we must also be careful to discern the voice of our self-will and the temptations of the Evil one, because sometimes they can overlap. And if we are not in tip-top bodily and mental health, that also will impact how we read and interpret and apply things (I for one struggle with ADD, depression, and anxiety - forgetting to eat a meal can happen, which adds to the mess - and had also been struggling against demonic oppression and demonic obsession for years, which negatively impacted sleep, which messed with the brain chemicals, which etc etc etc). It's very important to know oneself, one's most intimate dignity in Christ, and to take care of oneself practically first like that. Like an emergency in an airplane - put your own oxygen mask on before you try to help anyone next to you. Honestly, it is Faith that God probes the mind and tests the heart - I cannot assume or presume to know or scrutinize his interior life (thoughts, intentions, desires, feelings, inspirations, motivations, purposes, etc). That is strictly his own and God's territory. He can share parts of that publicly or privately, but we can never claim to know him like that. We can wonder, and question, but we can also obsess. I would ask, "What exactly, word for word, do you want to hear from the Pope?" I wouldn't call it benefit of the doubt, if you're referring to Archbishop Vigano's missive. I would call it Wisdom to not speculate in waiting for the official investigation to commence and first produce the facts, however much others demand immediate action. There are pressure groups both in and outside the Church that are making pedestals for victim-"prophets" and are making and exploiting other victims of these scandals. They/we forget that Pride is most obscured when present in Wrath, especially relative to an injustice suffered. We too often forget Christ in the heat of our anger. We need to remain sober in mind and spirit.

An interesting coincidence......yesterday I watched an interview Patrick did with Tim Staples 7 months ago, and hearing what Patrick reveals here with Fradd regarding his struggle with Francis, which goes back years, left me wondering about his sincerity. because he claims that he too has had his own struggles with Pf, that have gone on for years, but not a word about any of this in his video from months ago. From 25-31 their talk is completely devoted to Francis and the issue of heresy, and Tim reveals his indifference to the anguish that so many "trads" have with the ......I can only call the treachery of this pope. Tim refers to the "fervour of the right...feeding frensy"(misspelled- blame my computer), and he has no idea of what faithful Catholics like myself(I'm not a Trad nor Sede...)go through with PF......and as I said in my comment...if Francis is only guilty of grave scandal, which he is, over and over, leading Catholics of strong faith or borderline faith, to despair over the efficacy of the Catholic faith, that will damn his immortal soul forever. I also said there is no question that he is a heretic, even though only God knows the secret motivations of his heart, an d yes, he should resign. But I don't think he will because his soul is enslaved to demonic pride... And I also said the only explanation for why CA doesn't see that can only be explained by the awful truth of original sin, by which I mean, in this instance, that people who deny that Francis has created a crisis in the church , do not understand their own hidden motivations having to do with a range of human weaknesses including cowardice, hypocrisy, et al... I could write a book on my own struggle with this pope. For the first two years, I made endless excuses for him until one day I accepted that I could do that no longer, and I can no longer deny what my reason tells me is true. that this man does not love Christ and His church. Not really. I leave it to the Teaching Church to pass final judgement on him and the extent of his moral culpability.. Since I discovered CA about 4 years ago, I've had the highest regard for the Catholic apologetics carried on by the splendid team of all converts, I assume. But this blind eye regarding this corrupt pope, is more than I can stomach.

The worst thing we can do is think of this scandal as a battle between "conservative" and "liberal" Catholics. You either follow the Church's teachings or you don't. And if you follow the Church out of love of Christ, that's all that matters. I've tried to give Francis the benefit of the doubt. When it came to his refusal to address the dubia and his sometimes strange comments about people in mortal sin or non-Catholics receiving Communion, I figured, "Hey, maybe he's just a bad communicator." Or maybe he's wrong - even saints can be wrong about things. But I didn't want to jump on this bandwagon of Francis-hating because I take rifts within the Church very seriously. But, his refusal to address this letter is mind-boggling. The letter "speaks for itself"? Because it's pretty damning. I don't know what to think anymore. I just hope people don't take this chance to make a war within the laity.

It reminds me of a saying attributed to a Cardinal Ercole the Vatican Secretary of State in the 1800's. Napoleon was threatening the church while talking to the cardinal. The story is told that when Napoleon claimed the power to destroy the Catholic Church, Ercole had answered, “That is highly unlikely. In eighteen hundred years its clergy hasn’t succeeded in destroying it.” This stuff has been going on for centuries and it too will pass.

I have to agree with another commenter, in that, good decent people are acting like abused children who know that their leaders (fathers) have been abusing their siblings. They look the other way, they defend them, or they just hope the problem will go away. They are waiting for God to handle it, because they don’t want to handle the responsibility. And they go under the ruse that that it’s just important for us to just love, love, love. Shut your eyes, God will take care of it. That is a half truth, and basically it’s just being lazy and not taking care of God’s family. It was unprecedented for Pope Benedict to resign, if the currently pope decides to resign, it may be unprecedented but, if there is even a little truth in these allegations, it won’t be “horrible”, it’ll be a step in cleaning up a horrific mess that the church has been in for a generation or so.

I just finished reading the book “Unholy Silence” by Father Kevin Lee and the book “In God’s Name” The abuse of children have bankrupt the following Diocese: SanDiego Portland Seattle Fairbanks Tucson Davenport, Iowa and I personally know about this one. Church Militant is a good source too.

I’m sorry, but Church Militant is not Catholic. They were told by the Vatican that they couldn’t have the word “Catholic” in their name like they used to. And this was before Pope Francis.

You HAVE to protect the children, not to do so makes you complicit in the sin. What does Jesus say about those who would hurt the little children, that it would Be better that a millstone be tied around his neck. Interesting thought that the power of Jesus was as active when he was a sleep as awake.

It is hardly "conservative" to agree with Saint JPII. To disagree with a saint is not Catholic.

I wonder if it is saintly to take shots at the current pope before all of the information is in on a situation that has been going on for 70 years. I wonder if the disrespect toward our pope I see in some of these comments is "saintly".

If it were that simple that the Pope simply resigns. What about all the rest? Sodano, etc, etc, etc. How large is the homosexual network? 30. 40. 50. 60% of the bishops? Poles are also increasingly critical of many at the top of the Polish hierarchy.

God is not sleeping. He is creating all that, just as everything else. And it is the best thing for Catholic Church to happen and for all Catholics. Thanks to Popes like Pope Francis, and few before him Catholics don't even know their faith. Stoped praying to Mother of God as first response. Cut ourselves from receiving any graces from God, as all of them come true Mother of God. How we supposed to live and be saved? Unintended consequences? "Destroy not my soul with the wicked, O God nor my life with the man of blood. In whose hands are iniquities, their right hand is filled with the gifts." If you pray this on every Mass you are not so easly mislead by "false good" arguments. But instead we pray offeratory from Talmud in NO. Another coincidence well minded pastors? Instrument of our sin is instrument of our punishment. Pope F. should choose better friends. Ps. What happened to teachings that we has to avoid sin and sinners? Now we "dialog and accompany " them? How does it work for Pope?

We need a Pope of Indian Origin. Only an Indian person will be able to lead the Christians world wide, because of India's Spiritual traditions, which are deeply rooted in Truth, respect and Knowledge.
